莎士比亚是英国文艺复兴时期的大戏剧家、诗人，被称为“时代的灵魂”。他一生共写了三十七部诗剧，其中最为著名的是四大悲剧——《哈姆雷特》、《麦克白》、《李尔王》、和《奥赛罗》，而《麦克白》是最短也是最悲惨的一部，讲述了一位战争英雄在妻子的挑唆下沦为懊悔无及的罪人的故事。
麦克白是莎士比亚笔下“最深刻和最成熟的邪恶形象”，他的性格具有双重性和复杂性，他的灵魂原本有善与美的一面，然而在野心和***的不断吞噬下，他善良的本性渐渐泯灭，取而代之的是心底不断滋长的邪恶念头。他一面作恶，一面恐惧、悔恨，但是野心和***占了上风，最终“正不压邪”，导致了麦克白悲剧的命运。
《麦克白》情节较为简单，作者却不惜浓墨重彩，在据本中使用大量的独白来刻画麦克白的心理活动，从而把笔锋从残忍的谋***转到“诛心”上来，通过对麦克白日夜饱受良心的谴责，身陷痛苦而不能自拔，直至精神失常这一过程的描写，揭露了人性的丑恶和阴暗，发人深省。莎士比亚善于运用意象烘托剧情。这出悲剧的主导意象是血和黑暗。麦克白在暗***国王后冷酷而狂妄地说：“大洋里所有的水，能够洗净我手上的血迹吗?不，恐怕我这一手的血，倒要把一碧无垠的海水染成一片殷虹呢。”整个剧本充沛着主人公内心的恐惧和痛苦，笼罩着黑暗和邪恶。然而光明终归要冲破黑暗，善终归要战胜恶。正义的力量浩浩荡荡，最终推翻了暴君的统治。这个故事虽然情节悲惨，但结局却较作者其他悲剧更让人看到正义和希望。
莎士比亚运用高超的描写手法，生动地展现了一个原本尚存善念的人堕落为***人恶魔的过程。麦克白自己造成了自己的悲剧。每一幕独白即是他内心的斗争，是善与恶的斗争，是良心与野心的斗争，是理智与***的斗争。
我们生活在一个充满诱惑的世界，面对诱惑，我们良心的天平也会左右摇摆，内心相矛盾的两个“自我”也会斗争，我们应该坚持善良的本性，做一个从善的人。
