说实话，在看这部纪录片前，我对昆虫是很排斥的，因为生活中常常会遇到，甲虫、飞蛾甚至是我们避之不及的蟑螂，这些都属于昆虫，平时看到会尖叫的生物，被这样近距离地呈现在我们面前的时候，反而没有这么令人害怕了。纪录片里我们看到了属于它们的世界，看到了它们为了生存繁衍后代而做出的努力。毛毛虫破茧成蝶的一段是我印象最深刻的，大概是因为全程竖着鸡皮疙瘩看完的，感叹于生命力的顽强，他们活在物竞天择的世界里，以微薄的一己之力来保全自己，他们小心翼翼地活在微观世界，生命却大多终止于我们的世界，一个于它们而言放大的世界。微距拍摄虽然能完整清晰地展现微观世界，但观看确实需要一定的心理能力。
这部电影和《迁徙的鸟》一样，都出自法国导演雅克贝汉，这部影片花了制作组20年的时间，影片的每一个镜头都来之不易。从静态的观察到镜头的.移动，都是自然而顺畅的，电影的配乐和镜头的感觉、影片的内容总是那么好地结合起来，尤其是蜗牛缠绵的那一段。影片只有开头一段解说词，后面再也没有出现过，也让影片多了一份安静。
看这部影片之前，我们都不能理解昆虫的世界，甚至会谈其色变，但看过之后，觉得这些小生命并不可怕，并不像我们生活中看到就要尖叫而放大的那般恐怖，是我们未曾走近他们的世界，就像他们无法融入我们一样，也许，在它们眼中，我们更加可怕，所以，手下留情或者脚下留情，善待它们吧。
