这是发生在我外婆家——海口市郊的一个真实的故事。去年7月下旬的一天，太阳还没露头，外婆就背了一袋大米向村外走去，我也跟了上去。
走到村的南边，出现在眼前的是一幅难以用画笔画出的惨相：台风带来的一场大暴雨引发的山洪，把一栋刚盖好不到一个月的三层漂亮小洋楼冲倒了，衣被、农具、100多只鸡鸭、8头猪随着山洪冲得无影无踪，眼前只剩下几根水泥柱子。胡爷爷、胡奶奶蹲在柱子旁不停地叫着：“老天爷呀，我家好不容易才过上好日子，这下全完了，我们以后怎么办啦！”老俩口哭得像个泪人。
我们走到胡爷爷、胡奶奶面前，外婆声音很小，说：“大哥、大嫂，你们收下这一袋大米吧！”这时，一阵阵脚步声从后面传来。我们转过头望去，只见刘村长带众乡亲朝这边走来。他们有的怀里抱着、有的背上背着、有的肩上挑着……
刘村长来到胡爷爷身边，痛心地说：“大伯，您家遭到了不幸，我也帮不上别的忙，这1000元钱请您一定收下。”胡爷爷用颤抖的手推开送过来的钱，激动地说：“刘村长，你的心意我领了，但这钱，我不能收，这是你为儿子上大学积攒的呀！”
“大伯，您就收下吧！儿子上大学的钱，我会想办法的。”
这时，李大婶提着一包四件套崭新的床上用品走过来了，她把这套床上用品放在胡奶奶手里。“不，这是你打发闺女出门用的，我不能收。”胡奶奶又摇头又摆手地推辞着。“收下吧！闺女那还有呢！”李大婶边说道。胡奶奶流着感动的泪水，接过了这套新买还没用过的床上用品。太阳已经升起来了，乡亲们陆陆续续来送东西，胡爷爷和胡奶奶身边堆满了乡亲们送来的物品。
快到中午的时候，迎面又开来两辆东风牌大货车，车上装着砖、石灰、沙子和木板，这是几户富裕农民合伙送来的，他们要给胡爷爷、胡奶奶盖临时简易房啦……
一方有难，八方支援。房子被山洪冲走是不幸的，但我却因此看到了乡亲们金子般的心，感受了人世间的暖暖真情。
