1.只要有化学专业知识就能当好中学化学教师。持此观点的人并未认识化学教师的全部职责和化学教学过程的内在规律。首先，化学教师不仅要教学生学习化学知识，还要教学生学会如何做人，帮助学生形成正确的世界观、人生观。其次，化学教师不仅教学生化学知识，还要教学生学会如何求知、如何学习，帮助学生培养科学态度，掌握科学方法、形成科学精神。第三，即使教学生化学知识，也涉及到如何将科学知识转化为学科知识并用学生易于接受和掌握的方式来教的问题。这就涉及到哲学、教育学、心理学、方法论等一系列非化学专业方面的知识。因此，要当好中学化学教师仅有化学专业知识是不够的。
2.学了化学专业课，又学了教育学和心理学就不必再学化学教学论了。这个观点也是不正确的。化学教学需要化学专业知识也需要教育学、心理学知识，更需要教育学与心理学知识在化学数学中如何运用和实践的知识。与化学教学内容脱离的抽象的教育学、心理学条文是难以对化学教学产生具体指导作用的，化学教学论的学习过程，正是师生一起以教育理论为指导，紧密结合化学教学实际共同探究化学教育规律及其运用的过程。许多优秀化学教师的成功经验告诉我们:正是化学教学论课程帮助他们在化学教学中较快地上了路、入了门。
中学化学教学特色如何产生:来自教师对教学思想、教学理念的理解以及对教学原则的掌握。因此，从教师可持续发展的角度看，同学们应该在化学教学论的学习中努力掌握本课程的基础知识和基本原理。注重培养教育教学的基本技能，深刻领会典型范例，使基本理论学习为与具体授课方式的学习相得益彰。化学教学论是研究化学教育教学规律及其应用的学科。而化学教育教学过程是在学生和教师的双边活动中以课程内容和教学设备为媒介进行的。
因此，化学教学论中包括初步的课程理论、教学理论和学习理论。化学教学理论侧重从“教”的层面研究化学教育教学规律及其运用，涉及指导化学教学的基本理论、化学教学的一般原则。化学教学方法及设计依据等较为理论化的问题的研究;也涉及包括化学教学设计的基本要求、原则、方法和程序，化学教学各环节设计与教案编写，化学课堂教学的优化，化学课外活动的设计和实施，化学教学基本技能及多媒体技术的使用等以化学教行教学过程为研究对象的较为具体的问题的探讨。通过对化学教学理论不同层面的展开，展示化学教学理论的主要研究成果，介绍先进的教学思想和教学理念，揭示化学教学过程的主要矛盾和基本规律，示范化学教学的基本模式和常规方法。
