那是个下着蒙蒙细雨的星期天，我和妈妈还赖在床上睡着懒觉。爸爸不知为何心血来潮，想带我们去珠海吃“永和豆浆”。我和妈妈告别心爱的小床。无精打采地跟在爸爸身后，慢吞吞地走下了楼。
走了差不多5分钟，就到了公车站。爸爸摸了一下口袋，拍了一下脑门：“呀！公车卡和零钱我都放家里了！不过，可以找人换一下钱呀！就这样办！”于是，我和妈妈就在公车站等爸爸，而爸爸就去找热心的老板换钱。
“过了半小时了，怎么还不见咱家的老头子的影子呢？不会出什么事了吧？不行，得马上去看看。”妈妈焦急地说。我们东跑跑，西窜窜，很快就找到了老爸。只见老爸躺在一家商店的门口，脸色发白，痛苦的***。老板站在旁边惊慌失措地说：“他不小心踩到了斜坡，摔了下去，我又背不起他，唉。”哦！苍天！老爸经不起这样的折腾呀！我想。妈妈则是手忙脚乱地拿着电话打了半天才打出了120。车来了，医生连忙把他抬进了车里。
一到医院，老爸就被送进了病房，挂疹、照x光片......经过一大堆的检查，老爸被折腾得死去活来，脸色发青。后来医生确定是手臂的骨头脱臼，等医生接好爸爸的手臂时，已经是下午2点多了。看着老爸痛苦的表情，妈妈疲惫的`身影，我心疼的不知说啥。可是我那不争气的肚子早已“咕咕”地唱起“空城计”了。妈妈好像看懂了我的心思，说：“女儿，饿了吧？”“嗯。”我有气无力地说道。于是，我们吃了麦当劳，高高兴兴地走回了家......
到了晚上，老爸托着受伤的手臂无奈地笑了笑，说：“这真是一餐昂贵的早餐啊。”

爸爸拖着他大病初愈的身子，东奔西走了好几天，亲戚是没有指望了(因为都欠人家的。，只看“熟人”还有没有希望，直到开学的头天晚上，爸爸才借来三百块钱交到我手上说：“秀丽，别急!还欠一百多块钱就叫***到学校去跟老师求求情，等缓一段时间再补交上。”看着爸爸红肿的眼睛，虚脱的'身子，我的泪水不觉涌出了眼眶。
后来我才知道这三百多块钱也是来自六户“熟人”家的，而这欠着的一百多块钱，竟一“缓”缓去了三个多月也未能补上，老师已经催讨了好几次，还直接打电话给我爸爸了。爸爸虽然从大年初三就在工地上干着，可一直到现在也没进到一分钱，他的工资每月都被“讨钱”的人给半路截去了。
就在今天，爸爸把我叫到身边，把那一百多元钱递到了我的手上，我看到他的身子瘦得更历害了，眼睛已经深深的凹进了眼眶，脸上还添了许多曾经没有的皱纹。我不知说什么好!爸爸却像没事一样，说;“不要恨你的老师，这年头的钱谁都难挣，只要你好好读书，爸爸再怎么样也值得!”
我再也忍不住了，扑在爸爸怀里放声痛哭起来。

有个人问他：“喂，卖马鞭的，你的东西多少钱呀？”他开口就把人吓一跳：“5万钱。”买东西的人说道：“你是不是疯了？这种马鞭人家才卖50钱，你怎么卖这么多钱呢？50钱怎么样？”卖马鞭的人忽然笑了起来，腰都笑弯了，理也不理他。这个人又试探道：“那500钱呢？”卖马鞭的人显出很生气的样子。这个人知道这马鞭不值什么钱，存心逗逗他，又说：“5000钱总该行了吧？”卖马鞭的大怒道：“你不想买就走，不用啰嗦，我是一定要5万钱才卖的！”
这时，有个有钱的少爷来买鞭子，见这卖鞭子的态度如此坚决，以为这鞭子真的有什么独到之处，就出5万钱买了下来，然后，他就拿着这根昂贵的马鞭，到处去给人看，炫耀说：“瞧我这根马鞭，值5万钱呢！”
有识货的人拿过马鞭仔细看了看，只见鞭梢卷曲着，一点都不舒展，鞭把也歪歪斜斜的`，木质更次，已经朽了，漆纹粗劣得很，拿在手里也感觉不到有什么份量。
于是他直截了当地问这个阔少爷：“这根马鞭究竟有什么稀罕的地方，值得你花5万钱买下它呢？”阔少爷装模作样地说：“我喜欢它金黄耀眼的颜色，那个卖鞭子的人还说了很多好处呢！”那人也不多说什么了，将马鞭浸在热水里，不一会儿，鞭子就扭曲了，收缩得厉害，金黄色也都掉了。原来这颜色是用栀（zhi）子染的，光泽也是用蜡涂上去的。
阔少爷也明白了鞭子是劣等货，但又不愿丢面子，只得打肿脸充胖子，还是拿这马鞭用了3年。有一次，他骑马出去游玩，举起鞭子抽马时力气稍用大了点，鞭子竟马上断成了6截，他也从马上跌下来，还受了伤。而那断了的鞭子，原来只有一个空壳，里面什么也没有，已经朽成了一堆土。
卖马鞭的就是利用阔少爷这种人的虚荣心来出售劣质货。如果一个人只图虚名而不注重实际的话，是注定了要吃亏上当的。
