交际是否成功关键在于人对事物之间的联系或关联的认识。人类在认知过程中往往以最大关联为取向，但在实际交际过程中我们只能期待产生一个最佳关联，即听者在理解话语时用最小的认知努力获得足够的语境效果，并以交际为取向。关联理论认为语境是一个在互动过程中为了正确理解话语而存在于人们大脑中的一系列假设，所以关联理论的语境不限于现实环境中的情景或话语本身的语境，交际中的语境不是固定不变的，而是动态的。而最佳的语境效果是由明示——推理模式提供的。明示，即说话人明白无误地表达出自己的意图；推理，即听话人从说话人提供的信息中推断出说话人暗含的意图。其中，听话人的推理是理解话语的核心，而关联则是听话人推理的基础。对话语进行推理就是在话语与语境假设之间寻找一种关联，关联选取得当就会获得足够的语境效果，有了语境效果，就能正确理解话语，使交际获得成功。

还 记得有一个晚上，我和妈妈正从超市里走了出来。夜已经有些暗了，风“呼呼”地吹着，我不禁打了一个寒战。只见一个中年男子在前面一晃一晃地走着，他的手里玩着手机，嘴巴还 一动一动的，好像正在吃着口香糖，嘴里还 哼着歌，只见他走着走着，突然停下了脚步，头往下面一低，一朵白色的“小花”从他的嘴巴里飞了出来，“啪”的一声，孤零零地落在了马路上，。我厌恶地看着这朵“小花”，心想：这些人太不讲卫生了，万一有人没有看见它，一不小心就踩了上去，就粘在了鞋子上，这多恶心呀!可是，我明明知道那个人这样做是错误的，但我却没有勇气去制止他，我也更没有勇气去捡起那多令人恶心的那朵“小花”。我只是假装没有看见，刚想走开。这是，一个咳嗽声让我转过了身，只看见一位身穿橘黄色衣服的`老奶奶，她的背已经有些弯曲，头上已经有了银发，她面容苍老，眼角已有了皱纹。老奶奶一见到这朵“小花”，就赶紧拿着扫把一声不吭地走了过来，动作是那么的熟练，她轻轻地弯下腰，用一张餐巾纸把口香糖小心翼翼地捡了起来，扔进了垃圾桶。老奶奶没有一句怨言，她的动作是那么自然，仿佛这种事已经司空见惯了，已经做过了成千上万次这种事了。老奶奶的那个身影永远刻在了我的心里。
我站在马路上，为心里那朵恶心的小花而感到阵阵羞愧。我们的城市那么美丽，都是因为城市美容师的辛苦付出啊！
