《资治通鉴》是我国现存编年体史书中规模和影响最大的一部历史巨著，共294卷。记述了上起周威烈王23年《公元前403年》，下迄后周世宗显德6年（公元959年），共1362年的中国古代历史。
北宋史学家司马光主持编撰这部巨著，历史19年之久。他每天都写至深夜，第二天未到五更便又起床。为了防止贪睡不醒，他用圆木做了一个枕头，头枕在上面，进入梦乡后，只要稍稍一动，这个圆形木枕就会翻流通，把司马光惊醒，他就立即起床，握笔书写。他为此枕取名为“警枕”。
在主持编撰《资治通鉴》中，司马光投入了极大的精力，书中所记每一史实都从多种史料中比较选取，精详考证，有疑问者，又另著《考异》30卷，用以辨证各种史事的不同记载。
《资治通鉴》的数百万字的初稿，司马光都用典雅的楷书抄成的，工整不苟。

今天老师拿来了一株草，我们大家看了一眼，就异口同声的问道：“这是什么草啊?”老是说：“你们猜。”“噢”我似懂非懂的点了点头，它的\'名字原来叫“你们猜”呀！
我仔细的看着这株草，它是那么的英姿飒爽，好似一位刚强威武的战士矗立在大地上；它那层层叠叠的叶子，又好似一栋栋精美别致的小洋楼。它的叶子像花朵一样紧紧围在一起。虽像花儿一样美丽，但又不像花儿一样高傲尊贵。它的根茎像砂纸一样，但却让我感到光滑舒适。
