孩子们都醒了，他们互相张望着，嬉闹着，好像总也停不下来似的。忽然，有一个孩子开口桑娜：“妈妈，他们是谁啊？”桑娜为之一震，缓缓答道：“他们??是邻居西蒙阿姨的孩子。”孩子继续问道：“西蒙阿姨的孩子怎么会在我家里？”桑娜沉默了??
转眼间，十四年过去了。直到有一天，桑娜想着：“是时候把真相说出来了。”就在此时，两个金黄色卷发的孩子——西蒙家的遗孤回来了。桑娜眼泪涌了出来，她颤抖地说：“孩子们，我要告诉你们一件事情，事情是这样的，你们的妈妈西蒙??”孩子们的眼眶湿润了，他们跑上前紧紧地将桑娜和渔夫拥抱在了一起，激动地说：“谢谢你们，是你们把我们当成亲生骨肉看待，让我们到了人间的真情和温暖！”孩子们郑重地说：“我们以后一定要好好孝顺您们。”桑娜和渔夫看到孩子们都这么懂事，欣慰地笑了，他们和孩子们的手紧紧地握在了一起，眼中都流出了热泪??

“他们为什么是黄头发？”“为什么他们睡在我们的床上？”一大堆问题甩给了两个小家伙。桑娜赶紧推开自己的丈夫，上前把西蒙的两个孩子抱到了屋外。暴风雨已经停了，阳光在乌云中若隐若现。“孩子们，你们醒了??怎么了？??你们不认识我了吗？我是你们的??你们的妈妈呀！对吗？克里，克瑞？”桑娜随便叫出了两个名字，用温柔的眼光盯着两个小家伙。
与此同时，渔夫也正坐在温暖的小屋里，看着自己的五个孩子，沉重地说：“你们知道吗？你们的西蒙阿姨??死了。”“啊！什么？西蒙阿姨死了？！”二儿子惊讶地问。“是的，只留下两个刚才睡在你们床上的小弟弟??”
五个孩子同时沉默了，还是小儿子打破了沉寂：“那就让他们住在我们家吧！”小儿子的话语得到了兄妹们的赞许，大家都频频点头，渔夫开心地笑了。
从此以后，克里和克瑞就住在桑娜家，丝毫没有受到大家的排挤。渔夫和大儿子一起起早贪黑地捕鱼，二儿子每天在屋外观察着海面的情况，三儿子在帮助桑娜扫地，而四女儿和小女儿就开始学着母亲的样子做饭??日子过得风平浪静。可有一天，破旧的小屋里来了一位“不速之客”。他的头上戴着海军帽，身上湿淋淋的——他是一名船长。
原来，在头一天的晚上，渔夫像往常一样正准备捕鱼返身回家时，大儿子发现远处有一艘快要沉到海里的游轮，他们赶紧上前，救出了这位船长。那天，船长受到了款待。他在渔夫家住了两天，离开时，船长对渔夫一家千恩万谢，并承诺一定好好报答他们。
不久，桑娜收到一封信，上面写着：亲爱的渔夫和你的家人们：你们好！
