一天，阳光明媚，地上的野花都开了，不时传来阵阵香味。小猴和小兔正走在鲜花盛开的道路上，准备到山那边去采蘑菇呢。突然，他们发现前面的路被一颗巨大的香蕉树挡住了，那棵香蕉树横躺在路上挪也挪不动。聪明的小猴想了想：香蕉很好吃，从出生到现在我只吃过一次，如果能吃这么多，那不是很好吗？于是小猴说：小兔，不如我们把它分了吧！小兔说：分？可以呀！小猴说：那你说怎么分吧！小兔说：随便你。于是小猴拿了一片锋利的石头三下五除二地把香蕉树分成了上下两半。小猴要了上部分，小兔要了下部分。小猴高高兴兴的'拿着香蕉回家了，而小兔却吃力地拉着沉重的香蕉树根回了家。
日子一天一天的过去了，小猴的香蕉越吃越少了，而小兔的树根也渐渐地长成了一棵巨大的香蕉树。
一年过完了，小猴的香蕉也吃完了。一天，小猴突然看到小兔家的房顶上有几个香蕉，一看，原来是香蕉树根被小兔栽在土里，在小兔的精心照料下香蕉树已经长得比房顶还高了。小猴还隐隐约约看到一辆手推车，原来是小兔把成熟的香蕉给小猴送过来了。小猴惭愧的说：小兔，我不该那样自私，我们还做好朋友好吗？小兔说：你知错能改就还是我最好的朋友！
这则故事告诉我们对待朋友要真诚不能自私，要用长远的眼光看事，不能只看到眼前的利益。
