西游记中的师徒四人都各有所长，也各有所短，每个人都有自己独特的地方。唐僧――唐朝著名三藏法师，名为陈讳，法名陈玄奘，是孙悟空、猪八戒、沙僧的师傅。作为师父，他对徒弟要求很严，经常教导徒儿“要以慈悲为怀”。大徒弟尽管机智不凡，本领高强，但在连伤“良家三人性命”后，师父也不能顾及情面，而将他逐回老家。他心地善良，经常把能分辨是非的孙悟空冤枉，总是把妖怪当成好人解救出来。不过他意志坚定，一心向佛，坚韧不拔，执着追求，不畏艰难险阻，最终经历九九八十一难，终于带领三个徒弟取得了真经。
孙悟空―曾因大闹天宫而被如来佛祖压在五行山下五百年，后来被唐僧救出，又受观音点化保护唐僧前去西天取经，是唐僧的大徒弟。虽然有时淘气，但是唐僧的紧箍咒使他平静。他能有七十二般变化和筋斗云，他嫉恶如仇的心从未改变，并且能明辨是非，虽然经阿常受到唐僧的冤枉，但并不因此恨唐僧，也一直恭恭敬敬的保护唐僧西天取经，非常忠实。
猪八戒―原来是天篷元帅，因犯了错误下天庭又投错了胎，之后也受观音点化也前来保护唐僧西天取经，是唐僧的二徒弟。他好吃懒惰，自私自利，爱占小便宜，贪图女色，经常被妖怪的美色
