秋高气爽，晴空万里。早秋的北京，微风吹过感到一丝丝凉意。一大早我们就来到举世闻名的长城。
我们登上长城，爬到了一个较高的烽火台，此刻我已是汗流浃背。我满怀豪情吟颂着***的诗句：“不到长城非好汉”。放眼向四周望去，长城就像一条巨龙，蜿蜒盘旋在崇山峻岭之中，穿过苍莽的树林，翻越陡峭的岩石，从山海关一直延伸到嘉峪关，越过了好几个省，因此它得到了“万里长城”的美称。据历史记载，有二十多个诸侯国和封建王朝修筑过长城，若把各个时代修筑的长城加起来大约有十万里以上。其中秦、汉、明三个朝代修筑的长城都超过了一万里。
我们登上长城，踏着长城的石阶，扶着城墙上的栏杆，一会儿缓，一会儿急。每隔大约300米就有一座烽火台。据说古时候，只要看见了敌军就点火，靠点火来传递信息。
我又想起了一个小故事，讲的是古时候修建嘉峪关城时需要成千上万块长2米、宽0.5米、厚0.3米的石条，人抬不起，车拉不上，且山高路远，无法运输。眼看隆冬季节就要到了，石条还没有从山里运出一块，这时有人想到了一个好办法：等到冬季到来后，众人从山上往嘉峪关城修一条路，在路面上泼水，寒风吹过，结成一条冰道，然后把石条放在冰道上滑行，非常顺利地把石条运到了嘉峪关城下。是劳动人民的血汗和智慧凝结成了这条高大雄伟的万里长城!
两千年来，万里长城减缓了战争的破坏，保护了中原地区的农耕，促进了社会经济的发展。
据说从太空回望，万里长城是地球上唯一能望得见的人工工程。
