影片主要描写了主人公克里斯积极向上、奋发拼搏，最终从一名普通的推销员变成了他梦寐以求的大公司的员工的经过。面对命运的坎坷、面对生存的艰难以及面对生活的那份态度，那份淡定、从容、执着所深深震撼。他的梦想是成为一名投资专家。然而，面对生活的困苦，妻子决然的离开了他。他的忧伤与无助一次次刺疼了我，生活在煎熬着他，看着房东因为他交不起房租而愤然将他和他儿子的东西丢在房外，而他却只能带着疲惫的心，拖着心爱儿子，开始流浪，四处找寻住所。当父子两人在公共卫生间的角落依偎着，有人想近来方便之时，而他用脚抵着，反锁着门，不敢出声，痛苦伤心的泪水顺腮而下时，我一阵心酸！生活，为何要如此折磨这样一个努力着的人。一方面他要努力通过没有薪水的6个月实习期；一方面他要卖医疗仪器借此糊口；一方面他要保护好儿子的幼小心灵。付出了艰辛，总会有收获的。克里斯最终得到了幸福，当老板告诉克里斯·加纳正式加入公司时，他眼中充满了泪水。克里斯·加纳冲到托儿所与儿子深情相拥。他觉得自己不再对儿子愧疚，不再对生活失望，不再只经历挫败。终于苦尽甘来了！
