静静的夜里，纳兰性德翻看着日历，哇！这么快一年就要结束了！时间过得可真快呀，皇上视察的日子马上就要到了，他得赶快准备好皇上出发的行李。果真，没过多久，皇上便带着大臣、侍卫、将士等三千多人一起向长城所在地——山海关视察去了。将士们翻山越岭，在穿过森林时遇到了一些猎物，便将猎物围***用来填饱肚子。走水路的时候，很多将士们晕船，水上物资又稀少，不仅吃不饱、睡不好，还要防御水盗袭击。
终于，到达了山海关。因为关外是少数民族所在地，所以将士们要在这里时刻防止敌军入侵。夜深了，房屋外的雪已经有一尺多高。在这夜里，北风呼啸，大雪茫茫，许多不保暖的帐篷里都亮起了灯光，如同一个个点缀在大雪里的孤独的星星一样。战士们在帐篷里吃着已经被冻得像石头一样冷的馒头，外面天寒地冻，将士们的心也是一样寒冷，直达快要二更的时候，将士们才稍微眯了一下。
