2007年8月13日,这在中国国内,是一个没有什么特殊意义的日子。但在西方国家,成千上万的左撇子们却会像庆祝新年一样地庆祝这一天的到来。因为三十年前的这一天,世界上第一个“国际左撇子日”诞生。
三十年来,欧美各国的左撇子每年都会在8月13日这一天上街游行,反对歧视左撇子,向全世界大声宣布:“习惯用左手和习惯用右手没什么区别。”对左撇子的歧视由来已久。英语里,“左手”一词有“笨拙”、“欠老练”的意思。所以,人们就对天生惯用左手者(俗称“左撇子”有着很深的偏见,中世纪的欧洲还一度认为左撇子是“残疾人”。但事实上,左撇子并不是一种疾病。充其量只不过他们的生理构造与大多数人有着不同,谈不上什么残疾。
类似于左撇子的还有色盲、色弱、平足、嗅觉迟钝等。他们不是病人,更不是残疾人,只不过出于各种原因,他们的生理构造与常人相比有着与生俱来的不同。我们把他们统称为“非残疾的特殊生理人群”。
卢梭说:“社会即是包容”。但长期以来,这些非残疾的特殊生理人群却没有得到我们“大多数人”的包容,没有得到应有的关注。相反,他们还受到一些白眼、一些歧视。近几年,越来越多的“色盲俱乐部”、“左撇子日”在国外成立。国际社会对这些特殊生理人群的关注开始升温。
“国际左撇子日”只是众多国际节日其中的一个,而这些节日的设立往往带着苦涩,甚至是苦难。一些受尽不公正待遇的人们为争取自己的权益而组织起来,作为某种非战争的斗争,有时会演变成可怕的战争。这些国际纪念日,是人类对利益认识的不断升华,对利益分配关系的不断调整。比如“五一国际劳动节”,这是无产阶级奋斗的结果,而发展到今天成为调整劳资关系的一个重要切入点。
