芡实被誉为“水中人参”，古药书中说芡实是“婴儿食之不老，老人食之延年”的粮菜佳品，它具有“补而不峻”、“防燥不腻”的特点，是秋季进补的.首选食物。

芡实为睡莲科植物芡的成熟种仁，颜色白如莲籽，细如珍珠.主产于江苏、山东、湖南、湖北、安徽等省区，其他地区亦有产。秋末冬初采收成熟果实，除去果皮，取出种子，洗净，再除去硬壳(外种皮，晒干，生用或麸炒用。

我们进补的原则是既要营养滋补，又要容易消化吸收。芡实就具有这一特点，其含碳水化合物极为丰富，含脂肪很少，因而极容易被人体吸收。并且人体经过服用芡实调整之后，再服用其他补品消化系统就能适应了。它的意义还在于可调整脾胃功能，脾胃充实以后，再吃较多的补品或难消化的补药，人体就能适应了，对身体也就有益无碍了。

补中益气，为滋养强壮性食物，和莲子有些相似，但芡实的收敛镇静作用比莲子强，适用于慢性泄泻和小便频数，梦遗滑精，妇女带多腰酸等。

遗精滑精，虚弱小儿遗尿，老年人小便频数] 芡实15克，金樱子12克，菟丝子、车前子各9克，水煎服。小便频数及遗精。用秋石、白茯苓、芡实、莲子各二两，共研为末。加蒸枣做成成丸子，如梧子大。每服三十丸，空心服，盐汤送下。此方名“四精丸”。

慢性泄泻(包括慢性肠结核，五更泄泻等] 芡实、莲肉、淮山药、白扁豆等分，磨研成细粉，每次30-60克，加白糖蒸熟作点心吃。

芡实性味甘涩平，具有固肾涩精、补脾止泄的功效。

芡实在我国自古作为永葆青春活力、防止未老先衰之良物。

白浊。用芡实粉、白茯苓粉。化黄蜡和蜜作丸子。如梧子大。每服百丸，盐汤送下。此方甸“分清丸”。

实治虚浊。患白浊症屡愈屡发，或日久而有气虚现象的，即是前列腺部分松弛成为漏泄。这种病症用治急性病症的药品治疗已经失效，宜用北芪片一钱、升麻三分、柴胡三分，与芡实一两同煮，连服一月，方能见效。

芡实愈白带。妇女白带，如有湿热症(即局部发炎者或气虚带下者，都可用黄芪片一钱、龙骨四钱与芡实同煮。煮时除芡实之外，皆用布包。多服一些时日，便能见效。

芡实止便频。年老气虚，小便频频，或小便不禁，半夜时时起身，可用党参二钱、黄芪片二钱，与芡实一两同煮，作为充饥食品，经常服食能滋补气虚，疗治小便过多。
