小猫、猴子、黄狗、小熊和小牛都想得到这份工作，在回家的路上就迫不及待地背起了《看瓜员守则》。
第二天早晨，天气突然变了。只听见风像怪兽似的发出一声声吼叫，电闪雷鸣，紧接着豆大的雨点啪嗒、啪嗒地落下来了，猴子、黄狗、小熊和小牛看着窗外的`狂风暴雨心想：这大风大雨天怎么能出门呢？考试肯定会延期的，不如在家复习复习吧！
只有小猫准时出了家门，它顶着风，冒着雨，步履艰难地向前走着，一路上不知摔了多少跟头，才来到兔子大婶家。
兔子大婶看着浑身泥水的小猫说：傻孩子，天气这么不好，路又滑，你怎么还来呢？
兔子大婶，小猫十分认真地说，《看瓜员守则》第一条就写着：在任何情况下都要坚守工作岗位。如果见了风雨就害怕，那还能当好看瓜员吗？
好！有责任心，甜瓜有你看着，我一百个放心！我选定你当看瓜员了。兔子大婶感动地擦着小猫身上的泥水说。
暴雨过后的第二天，阳光灿烂。猴子、黄狗他们来到了兔子大婶的家。他们拍着胸脯对兔子大婶说：你考吧，我们保证个个得满分！兔子大婶笑了，她把录取小猫的事儿跟他们说了，接着又抚摸着他们的头说：《看瓜员守则》光背熟还不行，关键是要照上面的要求去做，有实际行动才行啊！怕风怕雨的人能当好看瓜员吗？兔子大婶还说：其实，我早就听了天气预报，故意安排你们在刮风下雨的那天来考试的！
猴子、黄狗、小熊和小牛听了兔子大婶的话，一个个难为情地低下了头。
