普通民众往往是信息的接受者，媒体成为了我们对于外界信息接受的最广泛渠道，主流媒体放出的新闻往往代表了“真相”，而在这则新闻浓重的标题之下，当事人的声音往往被压抑、甚至抹***，试图去探求我们目所不能及领域的人，也随着时间渐渐淡去，石沉大海，而接收不到信息的我们，默默认定了这份无法被确认的真实。这是一种对于获取真相自由的抹***。
自由是什么，“2+2=4”就是起码的自由，人是追求自由的生物，在密闭的环境中，只要存在一条缝隙，人都会拼命向着那点光爬去，所以在重压之下被限制的自由无法控制体制中的人，而最好的方法就是，将这份自由本身进行限定，让人们在一套体系之中肆意追求他们渴望的自由，怀抱着大量“被设计的真相”，沉浸在对统治者的感恩与赞颂之中。在《1984》中，奥威尔为我们构筑了一个完美的集权统治社会，通过“思想警察”这一重要系统设定，他们对于跑出体制之外的人强制进行洗脑，用近乎残酷的方式扭转他们的思想，只留下彻底的认同，彻底毁灭个体思维的多样性，使本真的思维只存在于统治者的脑中，人们宛如家畜一样简单地活着。
谈及《1984》就忍不住说起《肖申克的救赎》，典狱长将监狱设计成了他的小王国，老布在入狱50年之后反而对外界的“自由”充满了恐惧，就像在鸟笼中的鸟儿，尽管憧憬着广阔的蓝天，但一旦走出了牢笼，就不再知道世界的边缘在哪里，走向自由的世界，意味着失去曾经的“了解”，变得孤立无援。人最可怕的，就是将自身化为体制的一部分，一方面厌恶着体系剥夺他的\'自由，另一方面却又害怕失去对体制的依靠，被一只大手向一处牵引，失去选择固然残忍，但当选择不再受限，踏出的任何一步却又像是徒步深渊，这就是自由的代价，这也是为什么，老布在走出监狱后，最终出于对自由的恐惧，选择了自***。
