然而没过多久，他发现一只老虎总是蹲在不远的山崖上朝他的住所张望，因此他的生活像平静的湖面落下了一块大石头那样，顿时起了波澜。若石全家因为老虎的出现而人心惶惶、坐立不安。作为应急的措施，他一面带领全家老小日夜监视老虎的动向;一面用日出鸣锣、日落燃火和夜间摇铃的方法驱赶老虎。为了增强防范能力，减少精力消耗，若石一家把篱笆改成高高的土墙;在墙的四周树起一道用荆棘筑成的屏障;在山谷里挖掘了可供防守用的洞穴。这些周全的举措、巩固的设施使老虎望而却步。
整整一年过去了，老虎没有从若石家里得到任何好处。一天，若石听山里人说发现了一只死老虎。他跑去一看，认出它就是经常出没在自己住宅周围的那只虎，所以非常高兴。若石以为威胁自己的那只虎死了，等于根除了心腹大患。于是，他放松了对野兽的监视;撤除了打虎的装备。家里的院墙损坏了也不去修复;荆棘围成的篱笆破烂了也不去整补。他每天过着高枕无忧的生活。没过多久，一只貙(chu在追逐麋鹿的时候从若石的屋后经过。
它听见若石家里有牛、羊、猪的叫声就止了步。这只貙闯进院子，躲在若石的屋角边窥视了一会儿，见四周没有人，于是跑进牲畜棚里乱咬乱抓起来。若石闻讯后赶去观察，发现一个像山猫的家伙正在咬吃一只山羊。他不知道那就是性情凶猛的貙，所以用大声的喝斥去赶它。可是貙并不害怕，它仍然咬着羊不放。若石见这个家伙不肯走，拾起一块石头向它砸去。谁知那只貙突然丢开了羊，转过身先举起两只前腿像人一样直立起来，接着猛然扑向若石，用利爪把他抓死了。一些有学问的君子议论说：“若石只知其一而不知其二，自然会落到这种下场。”
寓言启示：这则寓言告诉人们要掌握看问题的正确方法，善于透过现象总结具有普遍性的规律。一只虎想吃人，饥饿的虎都吃人;一种凶猛的野兽会害人，所有凶猛的野兽都害人。

寓言启示：从这则故事还引申出“解铃还须系铃人”这样一句成语。

Although we can only keep in touch with each other by the telephone or the Internet, I wish I could let you know how much I love you and how much I’ve appreciated the things you’ve done for me. It is never too much to say thank you to you, my dear parents.

During the 20 years, you have done a lot for me, but I haven’t realized how much I love you until I left home to the university. I understand how much effort you have cost to bring me up. It’s a long time no contacting with you since last e-mail. And I miss you so much. Recently I luckily turn to the third officer working on board MV Blue Whale,which is a container ship. I intend to introduce you what Ido on this big vessel in this letter.
I am the third officer working in the deck department. As you know, the third officer is responsible to the master for the proper performance of his assigned bridge watchstanding and navigational duties.
On board, my first daily work is wathckeeping from 8 to 12 and from 20 to 24. my second daily work is in charge of the maintance of the fire-fighting equipment and life-saving equipment. The third , I am also responsible for fire and boat drills, I have to design a muster list and make crew to know the best escape route clearly. Additionally, there are also some simple things I have to do in daily work. For example, I have to assist the Chief Officer in supervising cargo handling operation 、to measure the draft at the discretion of the Chief Officer or the Master、to assist the Master on the bridge with anchoring and mooring and unmooring operation is underway and so on.
In the end, I strongly believed that you must be very familiar with my special work through what I said. And I hope you can stand my back and make me stronger. We will have a reunion soon.
