Recent research seems to support the contention that Matthew Maguire， later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson， N.J， proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. 从小，我就是一个很爱说谎的人，在家里打破东西时，明明哥哥就不在家，却仍然说是哥哥打破的，而小学还有一次，还记得，那是个晴空万里的上午，一个男生，胖胖的，矮矮的。坐在五年一班的窗边发着呆，好像蜡像一般。没错，那就是我，而那节课，上的是英语，班上没有一个人不期待着下一节的自然。就在这时，钟声响了，老师深知班上的人早已无心上课，便早早下课，任我们冲向自然教室，这就是一切悲剧的开始。
自然，向来是我最爱的一科，今天上的是石头，说到石头，那学问可多了，有比纸还薄的“石英”，还有滑不溜丢的“滑石”。当我一拿到滑石，瞬间心生歹念。彷彿吃了熊心豹子胆一般，把滑石当成了“冰壶”在桌上玩，结果滑啊滑的，就摔到地上了，全班没有一个人不在看我们这组，我的脑中迅速运转，找出了最好谎言，连想都不想就脱口而出：“猴––李某某，你把石头摔破了！”由于他平时品行不良，结果大家都真的相信了，不管他怎么辩解，都没人信他，最后，他被老师骂得狗血淋头，此后老师对他冷漠，同学对他疏远，剩他孤伶伶的一个人过完小学生活。
说谎是一件很可怕的事，不是被揭穿，然后信用***，就是害得他人无辜糟殃，因为我的一句话，毁了他的形象，毁了他的人际关系，毁了他快乐的小学生活，我到现在再回想起来仍是一阵愧疚，心头沉重。
透过这次事件，我慢改掉这坏习惯，男子汉大丈夫敢做敢当，我已经不想再去害到别人或使自己信用***了。
