More than 100 years after the first Labor Day observance， there is still some doubt as to who first proposed the holiday for workers.
Some records show that Peter J. McGuire， general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor， was first in suggesting a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold."
But Peter McGuire"s place in Labor Day history has not gone unchallenged. Many believe that Matthew Maguire， a machinist， not Peter McGuire， founded the holiday. Recent research seems to support the contention that Matthew Maguire， later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson， N.J， proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. What is clear is that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic.

到了括苍山顶，这里早已是人山人海，热闹非凡。括苍山是台州最高的山，在山顶上向下看去，四周的景物尽收眼底，下面的村庄就变得像火柴盒那么小。在我们的身边，有一根一根很大的柱子，足足有几十米高。柱子的顶端都有三片叶片，像蜻蜓的翅膀，又像是电风扇的叶片，叶片总是在不停地旋转。我问爸爸这是什么，爸爸说这是风力发电场，只要有风，叶片都能转，只要叶片在转，就能够发电。爸爸说风力发电是利用自然资源，既环保又省钱，一天24小时都能发电。听了爸爸的话，我觉得我们国家的科学技术多么发达啊。

今年五月一日，我们一家坐着小轿车去云台山旅游，一路上，只见欢快的麦苗在风中跳着舞，红红的玫瑰花，黄黄的月季花，还有许多不知名的小花盛开着，不时散发出淡淡的清香，田野到处充满着初夏的芬芳，我们仿佛行进在一幅美丽的画卷中。
听爸爸说，云台山属太行山系，是豫北的名山，位于河南省修武县境内。那里山岳高峻，山间常年云雾缭绕，风景优美，有着“小九寨沟”的美称。
快到云台山的时候，山路崎岖起来。远远看去，只见山脉连绵起伏，到了山脚下，我们下车步行进山。山路两边群山起伏，郁郁葱葱的绿色林海中，点缀着一簇簇小野花，带着露水和草木的清香。随处可见的潭水五光十色，色彩缤纷，而且清澈见底。在这令人心旷神怡的景色里，我禁不住跳进了清凉的水中，溅起的水花弄湿了爸爸的衣服，他拿起空水瓶，舀满水向我泼过来，哈哈，开始泼水了，我们俩互相追赶，真的是身上湿淋淋，脸上笑开花，课文里不是有句话：“清水是吉祥如意的象征，谁身上泼的水多，就意味着谁得到的幸福多。”我们怎能不高兴呢!
当我们下山时，多次回头，不忍离去。云台山，我喜欢你的山，喜欢你的水，更喜欢我们欢乐的“泼水节”。
