小学四年级下学期的时候，老师推荐我参加学校的数学竞赛选拔赛。只有通过了数学竞赛选拔赛，才有资格参加鼓楼区的数学竞赛。我的愿望就是能在鼓楼区数学比赛中获奖，如果能得奖，我的小学校园生活将会添上绚烂的`一笔。

终于，我不负众望，通过了学校的选拔赛，成功获得了参加鼓楼区数学比赛的选手证。可是这时，我却犯了难：声乐课老师让我参加培训中心举办的大型文艺汇演。我一直盼望着能参加演出活动，在舞台上展示自己，现在终于有机会了，我甚至已经想象到自己演唱歌曲的场景。

可是表演的时间却与鼓楼区的数学比赛冲突了。也就是说，我必须得放弃其中一项。可是无论我放弃哪一项，我都会感到遗憾。晚上我躺在床上辗转翻身，始终也睡不着。脑海中一直想着数学竞赛和文艺汇演的事情。最后经过思考，我决定放弃文艺汇演，全力以赴数学竞赛。为此我还难过了很久，很长一段时间都是无精打采的。我突然意识到这样是不对的，我应该打起精神准备竞赛。不然假如没获奖，岂不是让我更加遗憾？

抱着这样的心态，我参加了数学竞赛。后来，我居然得了一等奖！尽管想起放弃文艺汇演一事会有点遗憾，但我还是庆幸当初做出了这样的决定。要是我参加文艺汇演的话，必定会与数学竞赛失之交臂。

虽然我放弃了文艺汇演，在别人看来可能我是失败的。但是换一个角度想一想，放弃也是一种成功，因为鱼和熊掌不能兼得，放弃是为了更好的拥有。
