有一天，木头脚看见一群蝌蚪从小溪里游出来，木头脚问：“蝌蚪，你需要脚吗”？蝌蚪哈哈大笑，说：“脚？我不需要脚，我会游啊！”说着他摆动自己的尾巴游了几下，木头脚看呆了。原来，小蝌蚪的尾巴这么灵活。
一个太阳高照的上午，木头脚看见里了蜗牛整个身体趴在地上一动不动，木头脚以为蜗牛没有脚，于是，木头脚很高兴，急忙跑过去问：“蜗牛大哥，你需要脚吗？蜗牛从壳里钻出来说：“我会动啊！我不需要脚，因为我有腹足，可以爬行。”木头脚伤心地说：“难到没有人需要脚吗？”话音刚落，“我需要脚。”木头脚回头一看，原来是一只小乌龟，小乌龟从壳里钻出来，乌龟烧烤时，一不小心烫伤了两只脚，木头人高兴地叫起里来，它问：“你愿意做我的新主人吗？”乌龟回答说：“好！”
从此，木头脚和乌龟成了好朋友。

有一天，木头脚跳出鞋子，跑到外面去了。木头脚走啊走，看到了一只蜗牛。木头脚急忙跑上前问：“蜗牛叔叔，你要脚吗？你趴在地上一动不动，是不是刚刚失去你的重要的脚啊？”蜗牛说：“我是没有脚，可是我有腹足，我的腹足和我的身体连在一起，它虽然是柔软的，可它却可以靠伸缩缓慢地前行。你瞧！”说着，蜗牛柔软的身体缓慢地向前爬了爬。木头脚惊讶地说：“呀！真的可以前进啊！”木头脚只能垂头丧气地走开了！
木头脚接着走，看见一个木偶，可是他没有脚，于是木头脚对木偶说：“你愿意做我的新主人吗？”木偶立刻回答：“非常愿意！”
从此，木偶和木头脚做了一对很好的朋友。

突然它看到了一只燕子，他及忙对燕子说：“燕子姐姐，您需要脚吗？”燕子说：“我用不着脚，我本来就是有脚的。”木头脚垂头丧气地走到草丛里，突然看到一条蛇，看它一身黑不溜湫的，伏在地上衣动不动，木头脚想：“它的教在哪儿呢？”。于是木头脚走到蛇面前真诚地对蛇说：“蛇叔叔，您需要脚吗？”蛇说：“我天生就用不着脚。”说完，蛇扭动一下它的身体，奇怪，竟然能快速地匍匐前进了。木头脚沮丧极了，只好又走了，突然它看见一只乌龟，乌龟背着一个重重的.壳，好像一动不动的，木头脚想：难道乌龟没有脚吗？木头脚喜滋滋地对乌龟说：“乌龟叔叔您需要脚吗？”乌龟站直了身子，它的壳慢慢地升高，露出了它那粗短的四条脚，乌龟说：“我其实有脚，不过我听说有一个木头人它可能需要脚，你去找它吧！”听到这话，木头脚开心极了，急急忙忙地去找木头人。
在一条小河边，木头脚看见木头人正在那儿伤心地大哭着，木头脚开心地对木头人说:“就让我陪你吧！”
从此，木头人和木头脚就生活在一起了。
