我认为项羽应该过江东，原因有以下几点：
一、自己在江东富有声望，民心依附；众所周知，项羽乃楚国大将项燕之后，项燕死后，当地百姓都怀念项燕，所以项羽有着深厚的民意基础，在加上其本人武力绝伦，历经数十场战役几乎都战无不胜，在江东威名远扬，因此他如果回到江东，必定会建立一支强大的军队，东山再起并非不能。
二、为自己家庭着想，为身边将士着想，项羽如果当时听从乌江亭长的建议，率领手下及虞姬渡江，不仅可以保全自身和妻子的性命，还可以保全将士们的性命，有了身边这些骨***支持，对于今后重建军队，东山再起也多了一份支持和保障。
三、江东之地方圆千里，人口众多，又有江水之险，可以自守，项羽过江之后，保有用之身，日后改正错误，能够从善如流，然后再安抚人心，发展生产，建立强军，未尝不可与刘邦一战，重新夺取霸业也有可能，况且中原大地刚刚经战火洗劫，经济凋敝，百废待兴，外部又有匈奴等少数民族虎视眈眈，时刻有可能南下侵犯，对刘邦也是不小的威胁，这些也是对项羽有利的地方。
综合以上条件，我认为项羽当时应该渡过江东、卧薪尝胆，凭借江东子弟与刘邦继续争夺天下，这样即便最后失败战死也比屈辱自尽要光荣许多。

项羽大势已去，已经无力再和刘邦对抗，他应该向人们说的，返回家乡再做打算，也好过让那些卖命的人丢了性命，话说回来，项羽这个人宁屈不折的，非要争个高低，就是因为他的优柔寡断，才让他的手下丢了性命。退一步讲，如果他就是过了江东，还会有人在冒着性命干着吃力不讨好的事情去和刘邦对抗吗？就是有人愿意能打赢吗？答案显而易见。
