Dear Sir,
I am writing to seek your advice regarding which subject I should choose as my major, history or computer science. I am studying in the last year in high school now.
Next year, I hope that I will be able to enroll in your college. I began to take a special interest in history when I was a primary school student. I can still remember the historical stories my teachers told in class, so I was wondering if I should continue to study in your college. However, several days age, one of my friends told me that computer science is more popular nowadays.
As a matter of fact, many jobs need IT skills. I was advised that it’s more important to find a job than merely to satisfy personal interest. Therefore, it is now very hard for me to decide which subject I should choose. Must I give up my favorite subject and take employment need as a priority? I would be more than grateful to you if could tell me your advice about this. Your early reply would be highly appreciated.

旅美作家蔡真妮写的《用尊重成就孩子的一生》这本书，副标题是：向美国父母学习不一样的教育。这本书共分为六部分：尊重是美国教育的孩子；知识与能力；美国人这样当父母；他山之石；教育反思；家有儿女长在国外。当我打开这本书，看到书的推荐序的题目《让孩子快乐长大》的时候，眼前骤然一亮，便迫不及待地读了起来。推荐序里面介绍了蔡真妮女士的有关信息：身为人母，成熟之魅令人羡慕；身为人妻，持家之道井井有条；身为人母，育儿方法恰当有效。还提到了她育儿相关信息：大儿子阳光又懂事；小儿子活泼又可爱；中间还有个漂亮聪慧古灵精怪的小女儿，这本书介绍了美国教育的先进理念和经验，比较了我国和美国教育观念上的差异，列举了大量美国父母教育孩子的真实案例，其中还穿***美国老师对孩子的教育和指导。蔡女士还从家长的角度提出了弥补不足、缩小差距的方法与措施，真切地让我们感受到尊重和信任是父母和老师教育孩子的法宝。这也是我读这本书的最大感受。
在美国父母的眼里，尊重比成绩更重要。这本书的开篇就介绍了这样一个细节：班主任老师让孩子面无表情地发试卷，因为这样，不会让成绩不好的同学感到很差。我们大家都知道，发试卷的孩子看到一份成绩好的试卷会露出羡慕的表情，而看到一份成绩不好的试卷会露出同情的表情，所以老师让孩子发试卷时面无表情，保护了部分孩子的自尊心。一个小小的细节，让我们看到了老师对孩子的关爱和尊重。美国父母和学校老师一样，对孩子更是尊重有加。
比如说在家里和客人谈话，孩子如果有事请家长帮忙，父母立即先和孩子处理事情，把孩子的事放在首位；说话时蹲下身子，不让孩子有低人一等的感觉；让孩子从小就学着为自己的事情做决定，为自己负责；孩子有自己的秘密，父母不横加干涉。对于孩子，我们做父母和做老师的`出发点都是一样的，都是出于对孩子的关心和爱护，让他们快乐，不让孩子受到伤害。对于孩子这样一个个体，我们很多中国父母不觉得孩子有什么个人意志，小孩子就得听父母的，所以孩子能做的事情父母替他们做了，孩子不想做的事情，在父母的“谆谆教导”下，孩子没有办法却做了。
甚至孩子将来干什么，有的父母也为孩子铺就了阳光大道。而美国人认为孩子再小也是个独立的个体，他们也有自己的想法，做父母的要尊重他们的想法，给孩子提出合理化的建议，让孩子学会明辨是非，自己做决定。大多数美国孩子充满自信，待人友善，合作意识强，这与美国父母的教育理念分不开的。
“不让孩子输在起跑线上”，已为每个父母所接受，亲历美国教育影响的蔡真妮女士认为孩子不输在起跑线上的秘诀是：给孩子良好的德行，让他具备良好的做人准则。诚实正直有爱心，良好的心态，做事始终如一等等，都是为人父母在教育子女方面的努力方向，而不是把眼光紧盯在孩子的学习成绩上。
蔡真妮女士向美国父母学习，培养孩子做事和学习的能力，让孩子从中发现成长、生活和学习的快乐，自己也体味享受教育孩子的乐趣。
读这本书，我觉得每个人都需要尊重，而孩子更需要大人的尊重和信任。作为一名老师，对孩子要爱护尊重有加。孩子的模仿力、想象力和创造力都非常强，他们幼小的心灵充满了对事物的好奇，有自己的疑问和看法。
作为老师，应该从孩子的角度出发，蹲下身子，耐心倾听孩子的声音，让孩子感到老师重视他，欣赏他，不仅这样，还要努力营造和谐愉悦的教学氛围，老师尊重学生，学生尊重学生。让孩子敢说，愿说，乐说，这样老师对学生的了解就会更加全面，班级工作、教学工作就会更加有序顺利地进行。
孩子一直在被尊重的环境中长大，他自然而然的就会自尊自爱，同时也给予他人尊重。

I'm not yet sure whether you exist, though I'd like to believe that you do. While it may not make much logical sense, you've been on my mind lately. I haven't thought much about what you'll look like, how tall you'll be, or what type of car you'll drive — I'm not too concerned with the minor details. However, I have been thinking about a few things I want you to know.
I want you to know that I am happy — right now — as a single, 26-year-old "millennial" who lives in a small apartment with a roommate and eats Chipotle for dinner more times than I care to admit. I love my job, I love my crazy friends and family, and I love spending quality time alone. I want you to know that my life has purpose apart from and before you. When we do meet one day, I want you to understand that I do not expect you to complete me, or to be my God. That's way too much pressure for anyone to bear. I am already complete.
I want you to know that I am not a trophy. Apparently, a lot of guys think this is a compliment. However, I want you to know that I have no desire to be seen as a trophy — a symbol of your own perceived success. I was not raised just to sit and look pretty on anybody's shelf. I want to have intellectual conversations. I want to help you chase your dreams. I want to be your partner, not your prize.
