Some records show that Peter J. McGuire， general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor， was first in suggesting a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold."
But Peter McGuire"s place in Labor Day history has not gone unchallenged. Many believe that Matthew Maguire， a machinist， not Peter McGuire， founded the holiday. Recent research seems to support the contention that Matthew Maguire， later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson， N.J， proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. What is clear is that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic.

星期天，我独自一人在家写作业，写完后觉得无聊极了，便想找点事来做。我东瞧瞧，西瞧瞧，一双靠在床边的脏鞋。于是，我便想：今天，就拿你来消遣!
说干就干，我先把冷水倒入盆中，把鞋子放进去，消除臭味。过了几分钟，我把鞋子拿出来把水倒掉，准备放洗衣粉，可一不留神洗衣粉倒多了，我想，没事，这样洗得更干净。然后我又倒上热水因用力过猛，开水都溅到了我的身上，痛得我直叫。
开始洗了我学着妈妈的样子，先把鞋子上撒点洗衣粉。然后一手拽着鞋子一手拿着刷子在鞋面上东刷刷，西刷刷，刷呀刷，刷出了许多大泡泡和小泡泡，泡泡在阳光的照耀下发出五颜六色的光芒，时隐时现，并发出的声音好像在赞扬我呢。我拿着刷子使劲刷起来，边刷还边唱着“嘻唰唰，嘻唰唰……”过了好一会儿白泡泡变成了黑泡泡从我的指尖里溜了出来。鞋子上的小黑点，也都跳进了水里。我把鞋子提出来，看了看，“嘿!真干净!”我沾沾自喜到。
接着我开始刷鞋的里面。我左手托在鞋底，右手拿着鞋刷向鞋子发起了“挑战”可谁知，一不小心，竟刷到了自己的手痛得我“哎呦、哎呦”直叫。不一会儿，鞋子刷好了，可这还没完。
我把那还飘着黑泡泡的脏水倒掉，换了一盆清水。把鞋子放入清水里，又拿起鞋刷把鞋子认认真真地刷了一遍。豆大的汗珠，顺着我的脸颊流下来我顾不着擦汗，使劲刷起来。终于刷好了，我把鞋使劲拧干，放在阳台上晒。
阳光下，这双洗干净的鞋子也似乎在向我点头致意，得意洋洋的说：“瞧!我多干净呀!'
朗费罗曾说过这样一句话;"劳动给人以安乐。”我觉得一点都没错。因为我正是亲身经历过。我想，世界上最快乐的事，那就是劳动了!

今天是“五一”国际劳动节，我做了些什么呢?
起床快9点钟了，白花花的阳光刺得我睁不开眼。在路边吃了早餐后，我们全家先去外公家，想和外公一起去镇海郑氏十七房参观。汽车到了邱隘，我亲见了可怕的一幕。只见路上车如长龙，当然不是“游”龙而是“卧”龙，前不见首，一分钟后已是后不见尾了。很多车主从车上下来，悠闲地抽着烟，他们心里定然在想：反正一时半会动不了，心急又有何用?还是抽支烟看“美景”吧!但我可着急着呢!警察大概是今天最忙的人，扯着嗓子，挥着双手，但显然作用不大。这一段平时只需3分钟的车程，我们竟然耗了1个多小时，呜呼!
“五一”节，我感受了交通的极度拥堵。
中午在外婆家吃过饭后，熬到将近下午一点，才见车龙动得快了起来，于是上路。还算顺利，大约40分钟后到了景点郑氏十七房。停车处已停满了车，排队处人很多，有镇海户籍的人可免费参观，队伍自然更长一些。在十七房内，一边是锣声震天，鼓炮齐鸣，表演非常热闹;另一边是人声喧哗，游客多得像蚂蚁。有些人好像是被长期的工作闷坏了，狂吃狂喝狂玩。爸妈怕我走失，不时地呼唤着我的名字。不文明的现象随处可见，如乱扔果皮纸屑，随地吐痰等。
“五一”节，我感觉变成了疯狂的游玩节。
我理想中的“五一”节，应该是快乐而又有序，热闹而又文明，但我今天的.感觉可不是这样。
