the summer vacation had come round again. i was happy that i could forget about school at least for a while. lest i fool around all through this summer vacation, i made a plan as to how to spend it. first, i thought i should go over all those things my teachers taught in the previous term so that i could have a better understanding of them.
then i thought i should take up some forms of exercise, such as walking, running and rowing, to keep me physically strong. it stood to reason that with such a good plan i should make the best of my vacation time. i did, because i lived up to what i had planned.

尼尔斯是一个住在瑞典南部的14岁男孩。他不喜欢学习，还总是戏弄小动物。
一天，尼尔斯在家里发现了一个小精灵，并捉弄了它。最终，他被小精灵变成了一个拇指大小的小人。
这时，有一群大雁从天空中飞过，家里的一只雄鹅莫顿也想跟随雁群飞行。尼尔斯为了不让莫顿飞走，就紧紧地抱住了莫顿的脖子，却被莫顿带上了高空。于是，尼尔斯开始了漫长又危险的旅行。
他们跟着雁群飞向拉普兰省。一路上，他们破坏了狐狸斯密尔的各种诡计；从强盗山中逃出来；差点被铜像踩扁；用小口哨打败了灰鼠兵团；救出小松鼠；救了绿头鸭雅洛……在这些冒险中，尼尔斯逐渐改正了许多缺点。
夏天过了，雁群要往南飞，尼尔斯明白自我仅有照顾好白鹅，才能变回原先的样貌。最终，白鹅莫顿带着尼尔斯回到家中。
尼尔斯恢复了原形，却再也听不懂动物的话了。他从一个淘气、不听话的孩子变成了一个勇敢、乐于助人、富有职责感、勤劳、善良和懂事的孩子。

这本书的主人公尼尔斯出生于瑞典南部的一个小农庄，他生性顽皮，不爱读书，喜欢各种恶作剧。有一天，他无意间冒犯了一个小精灵，小精灵一气之下把他变成了一个拇指大的小人儿。正当他惊异于自身变化的时候，家里的雄鹅莫顿感受到大雁的呼唤，想与大雁一齐飞行。为了挽留莫顿，尼尔斯紧紧地搂住了他的脖子。不料，莫顿将他带上了天空。于是，尼尔斯骑在鹅背上，跟随大雁开始了他的旅行。
在旅行中，尼尔斯和雄鹅、大雁阿卡等参加了鹤之舞表演大会，帮忙了放鹅姑娘，从狐狸嘴里救下了大雁……
最终，他们飞往了威曼豪格——尼尔斯的家。在他的爸爸妈妈要***掉雄鹅莫顿和灰雁邓芬的时候，他不顾一切地捶打屋门，最终解救了邓芬和莫顿，所以自我也变回了原样，并且长得更高了。

这本书讲的是小男孩尼尔斯是个调皮捣蛋的家伙，他老爱欺负小动物，有一天因为对小妖精做了恶作剧被变成了一个拇指大的小小人。小小人尼尔斯阴差阳错地骑上了家鹅马丁，跟着大雁群一起飞往遥远的北方。在这漫长而又危险的旅行里，他不仅要保护大雁和马丁不受狐狸斯密尔和乌鸦强盗们的魔爪，他还帮助了鸟类们打败了灰田鼠兵团……
最后作为回报小仙女把尼尔斯由小小人变成了原来的模样。
读完之后让我懂得了只有锻炼磨难才会变得勇敢懂事、乐于助人。
