1927年冬，冯将军邀请陶行知到河南帮助制定教育规划。陶行知答应12月3曰前准时赶到。当时正值军阀混战，交通中断，许多人认为陶行知不会来了。一位老先生却说：“陶行知是言而有信的人，我敢打赌，他会按时赶到的。”
