蝉，一种小型昆虫，它的“寿命”约为10年至13年。其间，潜伏在地下约10年，在地面上的时间却只有一个夏天。

现已是初秋时节，但是夏天还是像小孩子似的，依然赖着不肯走，而蝉们的叫声却日渐稀疏。它们鸣叫了一个夏天，是该歇歇了。盛夏时的中午，是知了们最卖力鸣叫的时候，这是多么影响人们休息!我尽管没有午睡的习惯，但是在我娱乐时，不免有些厌烦。但是现在，又不免有些想念那令我有些厌烦的声音，就好像缺少了一些什么……
听说，蝉的“寿命”有10至13年之久，但是，它们在地面的时日仅有一夏天，而在这一夏天，它们仅仅只是为了繁衍后代，便死去了……
一次出行，不经意间，一只知了安安稳稳的落到了我的头上，我低头拿下它，轻轻捏在手上，仔细的看着它，它正艰难的晃动着自己的肢体，好像动一下就要费尽九牛二虎之力。看了看表，要迟到了!我把这个小东西放在树干上，便离开了。当我回到家时，却看见那只知了在那树干上静静的趴着——它死了。是啊，一个夏天了，它的`使命结束了。但是，几年后，它的后代会像它一样，重复这使命!
既然它们的生命如此短暂，为何还要见一见这停留短暂的太阳呢?而且还让自己都后代继续自己这无意义的使命，岂不是白走了这一遭?
后来我想，这就是生命!
知了们带着对光的渴望，带着这残酷的使命，在这一个短暂的夏天中，繁衍后代，它们的后代又重复父母的使命，这种生命的力量是有意义的!
