Partly autobiographical, the novel abounds with social criticism and sinister gothic elements.

是的，每个民族都有它的英雄，每个民族的英雄，都需要我们的尊重与爱戴。在那历史的长河中，在那印度的土地，有着这样一位英雄，他用他的一生，为印度人民的人权，为印度的独立事业，献出了他毕生的精力。他，就是人民心中平凡而伟大的甘地，人民心中永恒的“圣雄甘地”。或许，它的一生都是平凡而困苦地度过，然而他做的，却是人类最伟大的事业。
在大英帝国统治下的印度，民不聊生，印度人民的生存权和人权严重地遭到破坏，许多的印度人民忍饥挨饿，受到歧视和不公正的对待。甚至，多少的生命，在无力的抵抗中死去。然而，一代英雄在危难中出现了，他惨睹了在英国统治下，印度人民受到的种种不公与悲惨命运。于是，他站了出来，他为印度人民的人权与独立展开了最坚决的斗争。他写了许许多多的文章，作了许许多多的演讲，他的顽强抵抗受到了大英帝国的强烈反应，得到了印度人民的忠实拥戴。他以最独特的方式，不暴力，不合作，不妥协，勇敢地与大英帝国作斗争。即使，他总遭到英国军队的威胁，或者无理逮捕，但是，他却以此作为获得胜利的筹码，迫使英国政府对他妥协，而事实上，他成功了。

在许多人看来，或许他的所作所为是如此的不可思议，然而，他却勇敢地去做了，并且获得了属于他的胜利。当一代民族英雄在几声枪鸣中永世，当历史的长河涌向了无尽的前方，人们已不再追究那历史英雄的***害者，正因，那只能是历史的残酷事实，人们怀念与铭记的是那永恒的圣雄-甘地，还有他伟大的一生!
