可是，全国都是反对的声音，新闻主播讽刺他是“虚伪的懦夫”；残疾人希望他不要逃避，作为他们俱乐部的主席带领他们战斗；高中生们希望他继续带来鼓舞和感动；牧师反对他丢弃神恩赐的生命……他难道是一个对生命不负责任的人吗？他只是想保留生而为人最后的尊严。
莱昂纳德·科恩的一句话让我印象深刻，他说“悲观主义者总是在等待下雨，而我已经浑身湿透。”
Ethan早已是一个浑身湿透的人，但他愿意积极努力地去尝试新生活，可是身体的残废和麻木并不是靠精神就可以打败的，他甚至不知道自己什么时候大小便，也不知道什么时候护士帮他清理干净了。在一个下雨的夜晚，无数的小水珠从漏雨的房顶拍打他的额头，他甚至不能自动一寸一毫，任凭水珠滴了一宿，浸湿大半张床。他热爱生命，热爱一切美好的事物，热爱自然辽阔生机的风景，热爱明艳动人的.弗朗明哥舞，热爱一直在身边照顾他的护士，所以他选择死亡。
电影的最后他也没能胜诉，幸运的是，他有愿意帮他得到幸福的人，即使心里不舍，也鼓起勇气成全的可爱的人。

剧情在某些方面有点过分脱离实际，比如陷害男主的罪魁祸首逍遥法外，比如男主不计前嫌慷慨教导仇人儿子。影片在探讨一个人生命的社会性，当生命本身成了折磨，男主却被社会剥夺了安乐死的权利。相比影片最后那句经典台词，我认为某个镜头一闪而过的游行民众所举的牌子上的宣言更有代表性：free to live, free to die.
联想到前几天刚刚看完的《自***专卖店》，发现两部影片刚好相反，一部是在“全民自***”的社会中唤醒生存下去的希望，另一部是在“自***违法”的社会中寻求自***的合理性；前者画风扭曲诡异，后者每一帧都能构成一副上好的油画。

本片中主人公伊森向法院申请安乐死，但是宪法中明确规定不允许安乐死。我觉得伊森是代表广大有安乐死意愿的人在奋斗在抗争，他是一个代表，典型代表，有巨大影响力的代表。他曾是世界上最伟大的魔术师，被朋友陷害脊椎出问题，幸存下来，写书、主持广博电台，在精神上帮助像他一样的，真正的名人，广大民众心中的偶像。如果主人公是一个普普通通的民众，恐怕唯一的直接的最后的选择是，在“索菲亚”的帮助下安乐死了，因为他甚至连***死自己的能力都没有。
很遗憾法院最后宣判没有同意伊森的请求，不过伊森和索菲亚的选择做出了无言的抗争。其实最后有些像大团圆结局，伊森和索菲亚结婚了，好像找到了生活希望，不会安乐死了，觉得应该明确表现伊森在索菲亚的帮助下自***了。
影片中给出的安乐死理由是尊严，因为伊森这类人觉得生活没有意义，吃喝拉撒都要靠别人，完全找不到存在感，荒度时日。伊森还好，他在瘫痪的14年时间内是一名斗士，但是斗士最后都无法忍受了，普通人呢？
最严是第一位的理由，再者是能够给亲朋好友减轻负担，安乐死后他们都轻松，能够有时间和精力去做自己的事，不必那么累，还心力憔悴。钱也是个问题，许多人，患了绝症后，或者遇到事故瘫痪了什么的，没有几个家庭可以承担昂贵的医疗费直到病人死亡（电影中伊森那样的人都没有足够的钱）。既然根本治不好，何苦在让病人在人生的最后阶段花去一辈子中90%的医疗费，留下一个千疮百孔的家，自己难过，家人痛苦？还不如在青春美好的时候多享受！
他们更愿意打个商量，能不能把那些医药费找补给我，让我生命大好的时候花，花这笔钱让我吊着命痛苦算什么回事？
我在想影片中的故事是不是真实的，而现实生活中的人们，何时才能有掌控自己生命的权利，即法律能够同意安乐死？
