Dan Sperber和Deirdre Wilson的关联理论是在H。P。Grice的交际理论与会话含意理论的基础上发展起来的，他们合着的《关联性：交际与认知》一书中对其有很精辟的阐述。关联理论作为认知语言学一个理论给西方语用学界带来了极大影响。它将关注的核心投到人类交际与话语理解方面，其影响力已超出了语用学领域，延伸到翻译领域。因为自然语言中的每个话语都可以有多种理解，要正确的理解自然语言，就必须通过语境来寻找信息的关联，然后根据话语和语境的关联进行推理。而翻译中为达到语用等效，其前提正是正确地理解自然语言。因此，关联理论就成为可以指导翻译的语用翻译理论。

在记叙文写作中，我们可以题目规定的范围内，选择几个生动的、典型的人物生活片断，或事件的情节片断，或景物描写片断，把它们有机地组合起来，共同表现一个主题。这种构思方法，我们称之为“画面组合法”。用这种方法构思的记人叙事的文章，可以在较短小的篇幅内，立体地多角度地表现人物、叙述事件、描写景物。运用画面组合法来构思，就可以给作者留有相当广阔的自由创作的天地，使思路开阔，纵横驰骋。这种构思增加了文章的容量，可以表现更复杂的事件，可以更好地抒发作者的感情，更为深刻地表现文章的主题。
画面组合法，不一定有一格贯串全文的线索。但这并不等于说，文章的那些“画面”可以随便摄取和组接。它们之间的关系应当是分工而又合作的，独立而又集中集。所谓“分工”，就是各个画面表现的角度不同，侧面不同；所谓“合作”，就是所有的画面都要共同表现某一个主题思想。
