有人以为鲸鱼是大鱼，实际它是哺乳动物，而且是一种生活在海洋里的哺乳动物。
鲸是属于脊索动物门、脊椎动物亚、哺乳纲、真兽亚纲，包含了大约九十八种生活在海洋、河流中胎生哺乳动物。
鲸***期一般在十二个月左右，鲸在自然环境中，大约二到三年生一个孩子，幼鲸哺乳期在十个月左右。
鲸主要分为两种类：须鲸和齿鲸，海豚和鲸也是一个种类的。
须鲸分别有：蓝鲸、长须鲸、座头鲸、灰鲸等种类。
须鲸的种类不多，但体型巨大，须鲸最小也要超过六米，所以须鲸的体型是很大的。
齿鲸分别有：抹香鲸、白暨鲸、海鲸等类，一般都是齿鲸。
