东晋时有名的书法家王献之是王羲之的第七个儿子。他受父亲的影响，自幼爱好书法，希望自己也能成为像父亲那样受人敬仰的大书法家。然而，他刚开始的字并不令人满意。在他练了一段时间后，自认为已经很好了，便拿着作品去让父亲欣赏。父亲看了不说话，只是拿起笔来点了一点，让他去拿给妈妈看。他将作品交给母亲，母亲说：“只有这一点像你父亲写的。”王献之这才明白自己的字还是不够好，夜以继日地练字，用完十八缸水后，终于成为一名伟大的书法家，与父亲并称“二王”。
