恭祭华胥氏过“龙头节”，充满了崇拜龙的思想观念，以为龙治水行雨，决定庄稼丰歉，万万得罪不可。旧时这天早晨，人们要敬奉碾子，传说碾子是青龙的化身。有的还把磙子支起来，表示“龙抬头”。俗话说：“正月不剃头，剃头死舅舅。”所以大人小孩多在这天剃头理发，意思是剃“龙头”，以显尊贵、图吉利。妇女忌做针线怕“扎瞎了龙眼”;不磨面，不碾米，不行大车，怕“砸断了龙腰、龙尾”。
其实，“正月不剃头，剃头死舅舅。”一说实为讹传，其中的“死舅”其实是“思旧”的变音，这种说法的起因也与沈阳有关。清朝成立后，当时不少汉人为怀念明朝，就在正月里不剪发以表示“思旧”，但又不敢公开与清朝政府对抗，于是就有了“正月剪头死舅舅”的说法，并一直流传下来。
二月二这天大多数农家都吃“鼓撅”(手搓面条，俗称“顶门棍”。为什么吃“鼓撅”?有人说，吃了“顶门棍”，把门顶住，邪祟不入，一年太平。有人说，过春节大家都吃闷了、玩昏了，吃一顿“鼓撅”顶灵性，就开始干活过日子了。也有在二月二这天吃搅团的，说是给龙糊鳞整甲，使龙抖擞精神升天降雨。有几句讽刺懒婆娘的民谣说：“过了正月二十三，懒婆娘愁得没处钻。又想上了天，没鞋穿;又想钻了地，没铧尖;又想上了吊，丢不下二月二那顿油搅团。”当地还有在这天炒豆子的习俗，民谣曰：“二月二，龙抬头，家家锅里嘣豆豆，惊醒龙王早升腾，行云降雨保丰收。”有人还在附近的药王庙里烧香叩头，祈保平安。
地方风俗：山东滕州聊城一带二月二这天男性都要理发，龙抬头这天理发希望一年好运。滕州 青岛地区吃棋子和炒豆，象征着“金豆开花”。
炒玉米：传说中每年二月二炒玉米的传统，就是纪念义龙为解人间乾旱之苦，甚至不惜冒犯天条。传说玉龙因不忍人民受乾旱之苦，义助人民降雨而被玉帝所囚，并立下规条，只有金豆开花才会予以释放。人民因感激玉龙义举而齐集一起炒玉米，因样子像金豆开花而令看管的太白金星看错，并释放了玉龙。而每年二月初二炒玉米的传统亦保留了下来。
