您好！
我一时不知道使用怎样的好词好句，才能表达我对您的尊敬，以至开始写这封信时，激动得双手发抖，脑袋空白。
请原谅我的冒昧，在大学里读书十年，我从来没有机会与大学校长面对面交谈。作为一校之长，您事情繁杂，时间宝贵，来去匆匆，微末学子，岂敢耽搁？我常常想起上大学与同学同窗共读的美好时光，毕业后，一晃春花秋叶二十载，其中甘苦冷暖，悠悠自知，而未尝稍忘大学朝气蓬勃、激情四溢的日子。大学时代是一个人进入青春期后，由青涩而成熟的最美好四年：青春萌动、思想激扬、爱恨交加、情感深挚，在人生中铭刻着最难忘的记忆。大学生涯不止步于学习书本知识，而更要前行于探索未知的世界。我甚至斗胆认为，在大学里，埋头学习教材是次要的。大学之精魂所在，诚如陈寅恪先生所言，乃“独立之精神，自由之思想”。大学课堂，更应以独立之精神激发自由之思想，充分涵养学生的丰雅情致，培育学生的独立思考能力。大学是思想殿堂，而非生产车间；大学教师是精神引路人，而不是技术师傅。我并无看低技术师傅之意，学各有所长，问各擅胜场。只是想说，大学有自己独特的思想环境，自由人格。在郁郁葱葱、丰积厚载的校园里，一名学生要培养成独立人格，要学会独立思考，不从众，不流俗，于众声喧哗中，保持理性而能谦恭自然。作为一名大学生，还应在与同学相处中培养圆融的人际交往能力；在与老师交往中碰撞出独特的思想火花；在望着学术大家的背影时激励自己为人生理想而付出加倍的努力。
时代不同了，现在的大学，各种硬件设施比过去完备了很多，但是整个社会，上者总理，下迄布衣，无不为大学教育的`相对失效而感到迷惑、不解、且痛心。到底出了什么问题？我想作为一校之祭酒，一定也在不断思考着。微者如我，亦未敢忘忧。
时代在变，大学校长也在变化，而且变化到了令人眼花缭乱程度，做秀和逗哏如北京大学周其凤校长，写歌、磕头、低级发言，各种怪招迭出，负面新闻不断，在为新闻媒体增加下脚料同时，也让人惶惑：难道我们景仰的大学校长可以这样吗？因为时代喧嚣，大学校长就要吵闹吗？因为明星爱做秀，大学校长也要劈腿吗？前者北大邹恒甫教授于微博频频爆料，指责北大有种种污秽。这不仅北大师生所痛心，北大先辈所羞于听闻，我作为处江湖之远者，也吁叹不已。作为一所学术、思想的中心，北大自应与其他行业有所区分甄别。古哲云：“大学之道，在明明德，在亲民，在止于至善。”作为一校之尊，应知“物有本末，事有始终”，博雅稳重，知止安定，而不能混同于车浆贩水鸡鸣狗盗。
现代文明社会，人之职业分工数以百千，但需各安其分，各谋其事，恪尽职守。则社会行之有序，文化播焉，文明兴焉。说学逗唱捧哏甩包袱是相声演员专长，奇装异服浓妆艳抹是明星的行头，跨栏冲刺是田径运动员的本分，各有各的专业特点，出此则怪魅乱舞，道泯德失，思想混乱，社会失常。大学是思想与学术的殿堂，大学校长作为思想与学术的最高引领者，应博雅稳重大气度，虽千流萦绕而不自靡。以此才能于浊流不息中，渊澄取映。大学校长如果不能做到精神独立，思想自由，则大学小矣；如果国家不能乐殊贵贱，礼别尊卑，则庙堂隳矣。
我从来没有想到过要给大学校长写一封信，开篇即繁冗如此，实感惭愧。以上陈词，思之实无新意，拾取前辈贤哲之牙慧已。
余生也晚，闻寡识浅，不敢以自己之粗陋，以扰尊者之清幽。大学校长之名，神圣而远扬，说到大学校长，我就会想到蔡元培、就想到胡适、就想到梅贻琦、就想到张伯苓。这些前贤不仅是学术大师，还是令人景仰的师长。时逝物移，花非木故，虽然没有生在那个时代，没机会聆听这些前辈的教诲，但他们精神之高洁，思想之深刻，胸襟之宽容，举止之娴雅，谈吐之清幽，为人之真诚，对学生之爱护，为民族之深切忧心，现在读到或听到，追慕之心仍绵延不绝。一国之学术，一国之文明，一国之发展，现代大学都具有举足轻重地位。在抗日烽火正绵延不息的时代，以西南联大为代表的大学精神，仍能在艰难困苦中得以薪火延续，那时培养出来的毕业生成为新时代重要的知识储备，至今仍然代表了中国大学教育的最高水平，从那时走出来的各行业学术大师，令人想望而惭愧。
中国文化具有悠久历史长度，中国文明也有博大精深内涵，不该斤斤于短暂得失，不能执著于简单物质与金钱的考量。我心目中的大学校长形象，博识而谦逊，优雅而质朴，诚恳而坦白，认真而执著，严肃而友爱。时代虽然喧嚷，但思想之锥锤深藏。
以上寥寥，浑而且沌。不揣冒昧，进于尊者。庶其一二，或可嗔哂。

Dear Sir,
I am writing to put up some suggestions concerning our teaching and campus life.
As a sophomore from the Math Department, I am quite satisfied with the present condition of my university, but I餯 like to say that there is still some room for improvement.
First, I believe that more attention should be paid to the guidance of our study methods. To some extent, university students are capable of studying by themselves, but more often than never, we find ourselves at a loss as to choose good books to read and appropriate topics for our research. It is clear that we need some advice from our teachers. If our teachers can lecture more on how to learn by yourself for us, especially for the freshmen, our skills will be further improved.
Second, more activities should be conducted to make our campus life more colorful. I sorry to say that the present life on campus is quite boring. Every day we have classes, read in the library, or stay in the dormitory. Life here is routine. We need more meaningful activities organized to enrich our college life and enable us to study more efficiently.
