书生刚进到客栈门口，掌柜看到他一身破旧的衣服，便轻蔑地说：“中等房2两1晚，一人睡;下等房1两1晚，四人睡，现在只剩下两张床铺了。看你的样子是租不起上等房的了。”
书生摸摸身上的钱袋，轻飘飘的，看了看，里面只有3两钱了，还有3天才可以进考场。于是他哀求掌柜：“掌柜，我实在盘缠散尽，以后的日子怎么过啊?”
掌柜见他不肯出钱便命小二把他轰出去了。
书生在小镇上溜达了一圈，发现只有这么一家客栈了，他拖着疲惫不堪的身体回到客栈，愿意出1两租下等房一晚。但这时的掌柜却说：“现在的下等房已经租光了，想睡的话，留下1两去马房过一晚吧!”
书生迫于无奈只好在马房过了一晚。
另日早上，有一县官与其下人在马房一同取马。发现书生在马房里刚睡醒，便问他一二。书生把整件事都详细地告知县官，县官留下了一锭银子给书生便来到客栈大厅，并提了一个“恳”字给掌柜。自此以后，掌柜就凭这个字而客似云来。
一个月后，科举放榜了，昔日那为穷书生竟考到了探花，他被任命回乡暂代一个县官时，又路径了那一家客栈，他看到那个金灿灿的“恳”字时不禁哈哈大笑。
他问掌柜是何意思时，早已不认得他的掌柜脱口而出：“此乃诚恳也。”
书生大笑：“非也，非也。此为良心少一点。”
掌柜想了一想：“良字加心字再少一点不就是‘恳’字吗?原来当时的县官是在讽刺自己。”
这时全场民众都大笑起来，此时无地自容的掌柜早已躲回人群中去了。

是为了什么让我们跑了一圈又一圈，那么拼，那么刻苦，却依然挂着笑脸，含着甜泪？
一年一度的体育节即将要举行在我们小学附近的一所中学里，那里重点培养体育，都听说跑步的竞争力太大，尤其是女子。但是，我们学校体育队速度也是名不虚传，跑步前，主要看心情，如果精神不振，比较落魄，那一定发挥不好自己的成绩；像精力充沛，带着兴奋的'劲儿到赛场，信心充足，那么百分之九十的就会比平时训练成绩高很多。
我们在学校里挥洒汗水，在赛场飘扬泪水。
学校里先做热身动作，随后100米全力冲刺3组，好训练我们的爆发力，休息5分钟，随后就各跑各的专项，我是练长跑、短跑、接力的一位女生。我练长跑时，当那些短跑专项的人就会转移训练的操场，这400米跑道好像专属为我铺着，从楼上看，这么个操场很小，但非到我跑起来，却漫无止境。一开始有些受不了，可是慢慢的，我习惯了，我已接受了这似长非长的跑道，以前跑，感觉像散步一样慢悠悠的，而现在已经今非昔比，直到这我才明白什么是持久、冲刺、与团队的概念。
短跑400米，全力冲刺，是耐力和平时的训练100米有关，随着教练的一声哨响，我便拔步起航；随着计时器那开始的第一秒，我就身心飞扬，摆动双臂，带动双腿。然后是团队赛，4乘100米接力。这小小的接力棒，然烧着我们的热血，运载着我们的希望，传递着我们的友谊。
终于，比赛即将在这一天举行，我们怀着无比激动的心情来到赛场，这是个人与个人之间的竞争，这是团体与团体之间的竞争，这是校与校之间的竞争。让时间流逝到了下午，我的项目便开始了。第一项是接力赛，我是第二棒，主要是稳住中心。比赛开始了，我在赛道原地已经摆好姿势，等待第一棒的传递。不久，接力棒到了我的手里，而第三棒以迫不及待的身影让我以全力前进。这场团体赛，让我们取得了优异成绩。短跑开始，钉子鞋助我提速，但对手实力也很强，我跑着跑着，不得不加速。
短跑得了第2，但我要捍卫个人、学校的荣誉，即使女子长跑800米全是各校精英。到我了、到我了。我走向赛场第六跑道，准备好了以后，裁判员高声喊道：“各——就位”，“砰”！听见一声清脆的枪声，身旁却一阵凉风。第一圈跑，保存实力，跟住暂时领先的运动员，我虽然前700米领先，但有些体力不支了，看到已经有两名运动员超了，我有些落魄。这时，我听见我们学校运动员在为我不停喊加油，仿佛这点连绵不断的声音再整个庞大的运动场回荡，我想想和我一起训练的朋友们，想想为了这几场比赛流了多少汗与泪，当然不能轻易选择放弃。我仿佛看到了希望，在剩下40米，哪怕我还有最后一点力气，也要冲到底。终于，迈过了终点线。“啊！”我喊了出来，这积累了多长时间啊！
刚跑完，我躺在橡胶草坪上，有气无力。我知道，跑步其实不用这么复杂，简单来说，只分成灵魂与肉体，肉体再好，再强壮，也需要灵魂来支撑。
