一天，一只鹭鸶迈着一双长腿漫无目的地在踱步。它沿着河岸散步，河水清澈，气候舒适，鲤鱼和饄鱼在水中游弋。鹭鸶瞧着它们游到河边，本可唾手可得，但鹭鸶并没有这样做，它出身高贵，按时进餐，生活有规律，这时还没有胃口。
过了一会儿，它有了食欲，于是走近河边，看到几条冬穴鱼游到水面，鹭鸶不喜欢这道菜，它喜欢上等的食物。它的脸上浮现出一种不屑一顾的神情：“要我吃冬穴鱼?我堂堂鹭鸶大人，吃这样差的饭菜?把我当成要饭的了?!”
放走了冬穴鱼后，饄鱼又游了过来。“饄鱼!就这个小点心?要我为这没品位的东西动嘴?上帝也不会同意!”
最后，当鹭鸶饥饿难耐却又找不到一条鱼的时候，它却为更差劲的食物张开了嘴。它看到了一只蜗牛，感觉到自己还是被幸运女神眷顾着，于是猛然扑过去，把蜗牛吞进了嘴里，甚至还来不及细细品尝。真不知道它那高贵的胃是不是可以消化掉蜗牛的硬壳。
人不应该过于挑剔，最精明的人就是最随和的人，过于苛求反而会一无所得。要记住不能轻视任何事物，尤其是在自己的要求容易得到满足的时候。

First they went out and found two straight sticks of the same length. They brought them back home and tied them with a piece of string into the shape of a cross. Then they took some string and used it to tie the four ends of the sticks together. Then, they spread some brightly coloured paper over the frame and glued it around the string.They stuck a tail made of paper to one of the corners, and tied a long string to the centre of the kite.
On the next windy day, they took the kite to a hill near their house and flew it.

后来，吕蒙正参加科举，竟然状元及第，做到了宰相的位置。做了宰相的他，不忘旧时苦难事，在当年落瓜的地方，建造落瓜亭，作为纪念。
这一刻可能走投无路，下一刻或许柳暗花明，没有永运的胜境，也没有永远的绝境，一切皆有转机，一切都在改变：看努力，也看机遇。
