这一章里主要写了海伦·凯勒总想在未来的时间里考上哈佛大学，而数学——这个很难用盲文表示出来的科目成了海伦·凯勒的绊脚石。后来通过不懈的努力，她终于克服了所有的困难。
刚开始读道：“俗话说万事开头难，在最初的几个星期里，我却遇到了许多预想不到的困难。”我想：海伦·凯勒会遇到什么困难呢？
很快我就读道：“在课程开始时，我所遇到的许多书籍都未能及时得到凸印的版本，同时缺乏某些课程所必需的重要的学习工具。”我这才知道海伦·凯勒无法阅读普通书籍。
接着我又读道：“在我的书本未到之前，杰里曼先生已开始向沙莉文老师指出，我的课程太重了，应该减少我的课程时。”我想：海伦·凯勒会答应吗？应该不会吧。果然，海伦·凯勒没答应。
后来，退学后，找了基思先生做家庭教师。到了备考大学的前两天时，尤金先生等人都尽力帮助着海伦·凯勒，让她考好。最后，终于把所有的困难克服了。
我从中明白了这样一个道理：无论干什么只要坚持，就有可能取得胜利。

再说变成树的小圣，正等得不耐烦，只见摇摇摆摆走来一头大象，伸开长鼻子就要拔树。
