奶奶是家中的长女，很多家务都是她做的。一放学，奶奶就跑到山上挖野菜，割草，无论什么季节从不间断，就算脚烂了，手破了还是要挖。他们那时候没东西吃，为了填写饱肚子，有时候把树皮，树根都拿来吃，肉只能过年的\'时候才有的吃。有一次外太公要奶奶去偷红萝卜，奶奶一听到红萝卜就眉开眼笑，因为红萝卜在那时只有富裕人家才有的，可奶奶想了想又坚决不去，这时外太公火气一下就冒了出来，还骂了奶奶，可奶奶还是不去，外太公没办法，只得退让一步。
奶奶穿的衣服都是缝了又缝，补了又补。俗话说：衣服新三年，旧三年，缝缝补补又三年。新衣服都是先最大的孩子穿起，穿不到了再给小的穿。还有一个规定，新衣服都是要在过年的第一天穿，穿完了再放回去。鞋都是草鞋和布鞋，走起路来很不方便。这时我想起了自己几乎每天都穿新衣服，脚下穿著名牌球鞋，这些东西在这些老百姓眼中是一种无比的奢望。
以前奶奶家的房子都是用泥做的，又破又黑，看上去摇摇欲坠。家中只有十几平方米卧室，要容纳五，六人。这听起来好像不可能，可奶奶的姐妹全都睡在这窄小的房间里，奶奶家舍不得买蜡烛，只能用煤油灯。家中没有电，没有书桌，只有一张简陋的床。
奶奶只读了两年书，但她非常渴望读书，只是那时的封建思想很严重，不让女孩子读书。在奶奶上学的那段时间都是抱着她的弟弟，奶奶一边要照顾好弟弟，一边认真地听课。这样的读书是多么艰难啊！我听了似乎不相信，但这的确是真的。讲到这里，奶奶止不住涌起了泪水，她多么希望我们能多读书，读好书。
我听了这么多关于奶奶的事情之后，让我明白了以前的人是那么艰苦，现在的人是多么幸福。但这一切是多么来之不易，这也让我们这些学生明白了，以前的孩子是多么想读书，可他们没钱读，而我们什么都有了，就是不想读书，这是多么不应该。听奶奶讲了这些故事之后，我也知道今后要怎样做人，怎样读书。
