说来也巧，第二天，老虎就碰到了狐狸。老虎身子一跃，正准备扑上去一口吞了狐狸，就听到狐狸大叫：“老虎，你想造反吗？你不知道我是上帝派来专门收拾你的吗？”老虎气愤地喊道：“你别骗我了，你借助我的威风吓走了动物们，还说是自己的本事大，你真不要脸。”狐狸听了，心里怕极了，但是它强装镇定的说：“你又听了谁的胡言乱语，别到时候怎么死的都不知道。你要是不相信我的本领比你大，我们再来比比如何？你看前面有一座山，我们到山前喊一喊，谁喊的声音传的远，谁就是百兽之王。”老虎毫不犹豫地答应了。
它们来到了山谷。狐狸说：“为了证明我没有骗你，这次你先开始。”于是，老虎大吼一声，那声音震耳欲聋。老虎洋洋得意，心想：狐狸呀，狐狸，我看你这次还有啥话讲，我一定会吃了你。谁知它刚刚把嘴巴闭上，身边的狐狸紧接着也大叫了一声，这一声却震动山谷，传到很远很远。老虎傻了眼，不明白明明狐狸的声音没有自己的大，为什么却能传出那么远呢？于是它只好灰溜溜的溜走了。
哈哈，老虎不知道，原来狐狸根本没有发出声音，山谷里的声音，还是老虎自己的回声呀。于是，狐狸继续当它的万兽之王。

老虎半信半疑，说：“真的假的？”狐狸陪着笑脸说：“我怎么会骗你呢！你想想如果把羊、兔等家伙放进烤肉机器里，那味道你想想会有多美妙！”此时的老虎已经垂涎欲滴了，爪子也不由得松开了，狐狸见状，溜之大吉。
过了好一会儿，老虎才缓过神来，自言自语道：“我怎么又轻信了这狡猾的狐狸呢！”
