莱克和莎玛是一对要好的好朋友。虽然莱克家境贫困，莎玛家庭非常富有，但他们俩个仍然是非常好的朋友。
莎玛是个倔强的千金小姐，不过自从跟莱克交往成为了好朋友以后，她的小姐脾气改变了许多。在一个阳光明媚清晨，小鸟在枝头喳喳地叫着，风中还飘着淡淡的花香。莱克和莎玛牵着手在阳光下散步，走到了一个花朵盛开的花园。莱克说到：“我昨天编了一首诗，我来说给你听好不好”。“好”莎玛高兴地响应到。莱克咳了几声，自豪的说：“你拍一，我拍一伸出你的手，你拍二，我拍二，我们都是好朋友—————伸出你的手，我们都是好朋友”。

时间不等人，莱克冒着被倒塌下来的建筑物压死的危险，飞跑着又冲进了教室，背起莎玛使劲地全力往外跑，可是教室已经倒塌下来了————
救援人员赶到的时候，发现了莎玛，当把莎玛救上来时听到她微弱的声音在喊：“下面———下面————莱克。”救援人员好象理解了一些意思，下面还有人！救援人员搬开了一块压在莱克身上的废墟，发现有只手向上，原来莱克是把莎玛托在上面，而自己却被压在下面了。
莱克的精神成为了整个灾区报道的焦点。莱克为了救自己的好朋友，他自己却成了终生的残疾。但他们依然是最好最好的朋友。每当莱克坐在轮椅上与莎玛去公园时，经常唱起他们的那首歌“伸出你的手，伸出我的手，我们永远是好朋友”。
