一封信写完了，突然又想起遗漏的事情，这时用p.s.表示，再写上遗漏的话即可，要长话短说。通常在信末签名下面几行的左方，应于正文齐头。
注意：在正式的信函中，应避免使用附言。

是写信人对收信人的称呼用语。位置在信内地址下方一、二行的地方，从该行的顶格写起，在称呼后面一般用逗号（英国式），也可以用冒号（美国式）。
（1）写给亲人、亲戚和关系密切的朋友时，用dear或my dear再加上表示亲属关系的称呼或直称其名（这里指名字，不是姓氏）。例如：my dear father，dear tom等。
（2）写给公务上的信函用dear madam，dear sir或gentleman（gentlemen）。注意：dear纯属公务上往来的客气形式。gentlemen总是以复数形式出现，前不加dear，是dear sir的复数形式。
（3）写给收信人的信，也可用头衔、职位、职称、学位等再加姓氏或姓氏和名字。例如：dear prof. tim scales, dear dr.john smith。

(1收信人地址：英美人多用长信封，收信人姓名、地址写在正面右下1／4处如：

第一行写姓名;
第二行写门牌号、街名;
第三行写城市、州、邮区号码，(国名。
2）若信封为方形,收信人姓名地址可写在中间,各行可在左边起头写,也可以在下一行向右移一个字母.例如:

4 Hillside Lane
寄信人不自称Mr.、Mrs.或Miss，但是在收信人的姓名前则必须加上尊称Mr.、Mrs.或Miss以示礼貌。
住址的写法与中文相反；英文住址原则上是由小至大，如必须先写门牌号码、街路名称，再写城市、省（州）和邮政区号，最后一行则写上国家的名称。
在信封的右上角贴上邮票。
信封上的邮政区号(zip code，在美国州名之后以五位数阿拉伯数字表示，前三位数代表州或都市，后两位数表示邮区，至于邮政区号10027的念法是one double o two seven。
住址中常用字：有简写的多用简写： 楼 F(e.g. 2F 巷 Lane ( e.g. Lane 194 段 Section；Sec. (e.g. Sec.Ⅱ 弄 Alley (e.g. Alley 6 路 Road；Rd.( e.g. Chunghua Rd. 街 Street；St.(e.g. Yangkwang St. Clinton，Ohio 020567
中国人的姓名、地名一律用汉语拼音，姓和名分开写，姓和名开头一个字母大写,名是两个字以上的拼写为一词，只有头一个字母大写，地名也如此。
(2回邮地址：私人信件回邮地址可写在信封正面左上角，也可写在信封背面正中。业务信件，一般在正面左上角或上面都印有回邮地址。
(3信封正面左下角可写Personal，Please Forward，Registered，Express，Airmail，General Delivery等。
发信人的地址应写在信封的左上角，收信人的地址应写在信封偏中右偏下处。 左上角写寄件人信封中间部分写收件人。

I am twenty-three years old and have an honors degree in Botany from Bath University. 近来英国商业书信信内地址并未依次缩进，似乎与美国式相同。此外，在美国还流行一种普通收信人地址的写法，就是在书信的Inside Address中，把门牌号和街名都省略掉。在英文书信中要使用敬语，最普遍的敬语是Mr, Mrs和Miss（用于未婚女性）。英国人常在男性的姓名之后用Esq. （Esquire的缩写），不过在商业上也在慢慢地改用Mr. Mmes.（Madam的复数形式），用于二个女士以上。Messrs（Mr的复数形式）用于二个以上的男人，或用于二个以上的男人组成的公司或团体。在英国式英文信里，Mr, Mrs, Messrs，均不加缩写句点，相反地趋向于进步自由的美语反而加缩写句点如Mr., Mrs., Messrs.。在称呼方面，商业上最普遍的有Gentlemen（美国式）与Dear Sirs（英国式）二种，相当于我国的“敬启者”或“谨启者”。
典型的美国式书写法。
给公司单位写信时美语用Gentlemen（复数形式），英语用Dear Sirs。如果对方公司只一人时，必须使用Sir/Dear Sir。称呼后一般要使用标点符号，英国式采用逗号（comma），美国式用分号（colon）。书信结尾客套语（complimentary close）有多种，相当于我国书信在结尾时使用的“敬礼”、“致敬”、“顺安”等句。最为典型的美国式写法是Sincerely和Best regards，典型的英国式表达有Yours sincerely（熟人或知道对方姓名），Best wishes, kind regards 和yours faithfully（不知姓名）。此外，英国式的客套语还有特别礼貌的格式，但除了特殊情况外，现在不再使用。
