一进入鼋头渚景区大门，便听到那首30年前几乎家喻户晓的民歌《太湖美》：“太湖美呀，太湖美，美就美在太湖水。水上有白帆哪，啊水下有红菱哪，啊水边芦苇青，水底鱼虾肥……”吴侬软语歌喉圆润，轻灵得就像一个绝美的梦。抬头望去，那洁净的道路和两边高耸的梧桐树正带着金黄的叶子点头欢迎，洁白的芦花摇曳着枝头沙沙作响，正是万紫千红层林尽染，好一派诱人的秋色。浩瀚的湖面在阳光的.照射下波光粼粼，沿岸的山丘逶迤着绽放璀璨斑斓。岸边还有许多的树种光秃着枝头伸向湖面，仔细一看都是些桃花樱花之类的。试想，如果是春暖花开的季节，岸边百花吐艳，湖面帆影点点，青山遥遥相对，谁人能不欲醉欲仙？难怪当代大诗人郭沫若留下情有独钟的诗句“太湖佳绝处，毕竟在鼋头”。
没有未见花开的遗憾。阳光很明媚，心情很灿烂，在暖阳下坐船游太湖也别有风味，更何况这时是旅游淡季，没有人挤人看人头的尴尬，你可以随意从甲板走到船舱再从底层走到顶层，放眼远眺，那平静的湖面随微风荡起细细的涟漪，那浩渺的湖水坦荡而从容，涤尽人间嚣尘----忘却那些人间烦恼吧！任风儿把头发吹乱，让思绪无边无际地飘荡，那种轻松自在的感觉无以言表。
在不知不觉中，船儿到达一个叫太湖仙岛的地方，一下船才发现那岛上居然人潮涌动热闹非凡----原来是一所学校组织的秋游活动，我们能够“意想不到”的融入其中还真是一个偏得。你看，孩子们个个喜笑颜开，有的登山眺望摆照型，有的围在特色美食小摊边享受舌尖上的快乐，有的在湖边的空地上手拉手尽情地唱呀跳呀，那一刻没有任何“笼中之鸟”的无奈、困惑和压力，释放出的都是那种真真切切天真烂漫的美好时光----和孩子们在一起永远不会变老，生活在太湖边的孩子们真是太幸福了。
回到鼋头渚，终于看到那块被神化了的渚头巨石，三面湖水拥抱，冲波兀立，显示出一只栩栩如生的神鼋，昂首于碧水之中，雄姿英发，“鼋头渚”因此而得名，这里也是纵观太湖山水组合的最佳处----萧梁时，此地建有“广福庵”，为“南朝四百八十寺，多少楼台烟雨中”的一处。明初，“太湖春涨”被列为“无锡八景”之一。明末，东林党首领高攀龙常来此踏浪吟哦，留有“鼋头渚边濯足”遗迹。文人雅士咏唱之作颇多。清末无锡知县廖伦在临湖峭壁上题书“包孕吴越”和“横云”两处摩崖石刻。
漫步岛上，拾阶而上，掩映在树丛中的楼台亭阁，半山腰的广福寺香烟缭绕，曲径通幽的竹林无不值得回味和留恋。穿行在江南各种叫不清的植被树木之间，我更喜欢那湖边随风摇曳的熟悉的芦花飘香，带着乡土带着野趣还有一点沧桑，在湖水的拍打中顽强地扎根开花。当然，与咱们“湿地之都”盘锦的百万亩芦苇荡相比，那就是“万花丛中一点绿”了。
据介绍，鼋头渚风景区始建于1916年，现面积达539公顷。这里不仅有充山隐秀、鹿顶迎晖、鼋渚春涛、万浪卷雪、横云山庄、太湖仙岛、江南兰苑等各具风貌的自然景观，还有王昆仑故居、陶朱阁等人文景观，是江南最大的山水园林之一。当年年轻的聂耳随电影《大路》摄制组来无锡时就居住在这里，并谱写了著名的《大路歌》和《开路先锋》两首插曲，他来到正在修建公路的工地上，将《大路歌》唱给民工们听，电影尚未拍完，歌曲就已经通过民工流传开了。
关于太湖的传说很多。相传在很久以前王母做寿，在天宫大设皤桃宴，玉皇大帝命四大金刚送去一份寿礼，是一个大银盒，里面装有72颗特大的翡翠，外表还雕饰着千姿百态、五颜六色的飞禽走兽，如同一个聚宝盆，令在场的各路神仙赞不绝口。但王母设宴时没有请孙悟空，于是这位齐天大圣就大闹天宫。当他看见这个大银盒时，一棒打翻，银盒便从空中翻落下来，砸到地上成了一大坑，银盒立即化成了湖水。因湖是从天上掉下来的，“天”字上的一横落在下面变成一点，就是“太”，所以此湖取名为“太湖”。而72颗翡翠分撒在太湖之中，变成了72峰。银盒本来是圆的，被孙悟空打了一棒，这便是太湖不圆的原因……
在湖边的一家小饭店，大家饶有兴趣地品尝“太湖特色套餐”，什么酱排骨、“太湖三白”、无锡小笼包等等一道道小巧精致玲琅满目十分诱人，当一大盘红彤彤的让南方人忘情而垂涎的大闸蟹端上桌后，大家不约而同地笑了----目前江南很多蟹苗都来自于咱家乡盘锦。
