萤火虫们和蝴蝶们是好朋友。每到夜晚，萤火虫们就会用它们微弱的光，聚集起来，照亮整片草地。蝴蝶们呢，就随着蟋蟀弹奏的乐曲跳起了欢快的舞。它们在一起是多么快乐！
可是，快乐的日子过了没多久，当大家都在欣赏和夸奖蝴蝶们优美的舞姿时，有一些萤火虫开始嫉妒了。“她们虽然跳得好，但是我们的功劳最大。”“要是我们在晚上不照明，看她们还怎么跳！”“我们明天就不给她们照明了。”萤火虫们经过一番讨论后达成了共识。
第二天晚上，蝴蝶们依旧来到了草地上。她们正准备开始跳舞，忽然感觉似乎少了点什么。她们向四周一望，周围一篇漆黑，伸手不见五指。原来，她们少的是灯光！蝴蝶们慌忙地四处寻找萤火虫，却始终不见萤火虫的踪影。萤火虫们躲在石头后面偷笑起来。
这样的日子持续了好几天。蝴蝶们天天在草地上等待，她们很是想念萤火虫。这段时间，草坪上再也没有往日的欢声笑语，了无生机。萤火虫们突然发现这样的日子太无趣了，她们又达成了新的共识。
又是一个新的夜晚，萤火虫们再次点亮了灯，并向蝴蝶们道了歉。最后，萤火虫们照亮了整片草地，蝴蝶们在蟋蟀的琴声中又开始跳起了欢乐的舞。这个夜晚，似乎比往常更加欢乐了。
