A letter to a Schoolmate

Dear Xiao Wang,
I am delighted to know that you will be able to visit me for a week during the National Day holiday. I am looking forward to your visit and to the opportunity to catch up. Welcome to my home in Nanjing!
As you know, Nanjing has many places of interest to see, to discover, and to enjoy. Among its historical sites are stone city wall, the Confucius Temple with its magnificent night view, and Dr. Sun Yetsen's Mausoleum. With all its universities, Nanjing is a cultural center, offering an abundance of artistic and musical performances. It's also a city of beautiful gardens and parks, such as the Xuanwu Lake Park. With all these features, we will have a fun-filled week, especially that in early-October, there are many sunny and mild days for outdoor activities. So, I would suggest visiting these places first, and deciding on the others as our week develops.
Finally, since at this time of the year the weather gets a little chilly in the evening, I would suggest that you bring some warm clothing with you. Also, as there will be crowds of people at the stations and on the trains, you need to be very careful with your belongings!

Zeng Qiao is one of my friends. She is a beautiful, outgoingand good-tempered girl. She smiles frequently. I think it’s her smile that makes her beauty. We live in the same dormitory, so that we always stay together, no matter going to classroom or having dinners. At first, I don’t like her very much, because she is always talking. It seems that she can’t stop open her mouth. I am a little bit quiet and introverted, so I seldom talk to others. But gradually, I find that she can have influence on others by what she says. Zeng Qiao likes sharing interesting things with others. For example, she likes telling us her funny stories of her childhood or her former classmates. She always tells me that I should be more extroverted and learn to talk to others. Under the influence of her, I communicate with others more frequently and I find that it feels so great. I am so grateful that I can have such a good friend.

今天我看了一个小故事《鞭子和青草》，想和各位家长一起分享。
故事的内容是这样的：一个农夫在牛棚前用力抽打着他的耕牛，想把耕牛赶进牛棚，但倔强的耕牛就是纹丝不动。一个过路人看到后，拣起一把青草，走到耕牛前面，耕牛抬起头，乖乖跟在他的后面进了牛棚。
不知您听了这个故事有什么感想？作为一名心理老师，我只想说：请您相信爱的力量！没有爱，我也无法工作。 每次上课都能听到孩子的欢呼声，我能感受到他们是那么喜欢我的课，他们可以在课堂上畅所欲言，我经常是那么认真的聆听他们的心声，你们知道吗？他们心理有多少的委屈多少的困惑多少的无奈（我经常接到孩子们的电话）……
您可能工作很忙，压力很大，下班后感到精疲力竭，还要做家务；您可能目前失业，常常为生计总是很烦；您的孩子可能课业很重，放学很晚，回家要写作业，您为了给他省时间，尽量不打扰他；您可能给孩子规定了课余要练琴、上舞蹈课、学画画，让他几乎没有和您坐下来聊天的机会。总之，您和孩子交流的时间很少。
您或许会说：我还是很注意和孩子沟通教育孩子的，特别是当我发现他有坏毛病时，我会严厉地纠正他。的确，在您的孩子咬手指、挖鼻孔、说脏话、乱丢东西、或者纠缠得您很烦时，您很不客气地对他说“NO”。这时您表现得是一位严母或严父，您也必然为这样一来的效果满意。可是，也许您没时间，您没有告诉他为什么不能这样做，应该怎样做。在孩子没有咬手指、挖鼻孔、说脏话、乱丢东西、或者纠缠您时，您却很少注意他，更不用说表扬他说“OK”了。何况，您和您的爱人都不能保证在生活中、在孩子面前不挖鼻孔、不说脏话、不乱丢东西，也没有在发生这些事的时候对自己或孩子说“我不对”。而我们这些“大人”却叫孩子们在我们不愉快时说“我不对”。
作为孩子，他有理由认为，您让他做连您也做不到的事，这多不公平！但他怕您的训斥，于是只好努力做下去。而他做得很好时，却得不到您的夸奖和认同。他失望了，再做下去就不像以前那么卖力。“反正没人说我好”，他这么想。当他再一次做得不好、令您心烦、遭到您的批评时，其实他很委屈。但他也许还不会或不敢跟您顶嘴，只能自己给自己找答案。最后，他告诉自己：“爸爸妈妈是不可信的！”
时间一长，您在孩子心中失去了威望。当孩子连父母都不信任时，他还可能对谁信任呢？这将是一个严重的问题。随着年龄的'长大，他会怀疑您，怀疑老师、同学，怀疑整个社会。他会把自己封闭起来，对很多事情毫无兴趣。他说学习没劲、弹琴没劲、舞蹈没劲、画画没劲，甚至吃饭没劲、睡觉没劲、活着没劲。望子成龙或望女成凤将难以实现，而且孩子越来越不正常，您这时才意识到了问题。您问我：“这是怎么一回事？”
您不必急着问我：“那么，我该怎么办？”其实也许很简单，要知道，现在的结局可能就是从孩子咬手指、挖鼻孔、说脏话、乱丢东西这些小问题开始的。所以，您要做的，至少应该是尽可能的多和孩子在一起，陪陪他玩，听他想对您说什么，鼓舞他，奖励他，让他把您当朋友。难道这很难么？只要有耐心。当然，您要做孩子的榜样，如果做不到，要敢于当着他批评自己。别怕害羞，这样孩子只会更相信您，更爱您。这样，当您的孩子真的犯错误时，您的说教才有力度，因为他知道，这是出于爱。您的孩子会越来越喜欢您，喜欢和您在一起，讲他的想法，听您的意见。当您和他真的成为朋友时，您所谓的“代沟”就消失了。
“我发现，我才是孩子的最亲密的朋友！”大胆地讲出来吧，不必藏在心里。这正是我想告诉您的。大胆地开始做吧，越快越好！让我们一起来爱我们的孩子吧！
