狮子爱上了农夫的女儿,请求农夫将女儿嫁给它。农夫既不忍心把女儿许配给猛兽,又不敢拒绝,就想出了一个方法。当狮子来催促的时候,农夫对它说:我很愿意将女儿嫁给你,但她很怕你的尖牙利爪,如果你剪掉它们,我女儿立刻与你结婚。狮子立刻答应了,回去剪掉它的尖牙和利爪。可是如此一来,农夫就不怕狮子了,当狮子再来的时候,农夫就用木棒把它赶走了。

原意：轻易放弃已有的力量是一种不智之举。
