Founder of Labor Day
More than 100 years after the first Labor Day observance， there is still some doubt as to who first proposed the holiday for workers.
Some records show that Peter J. McGuire， general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor， was first in suggesting a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold."
But Peter McGuire"s place in Labor Day history has not gone unchallenged. Many believe that Matthew Maguire， a machinist， not Peter McGuire， founded the holiday. Recent research seems to support the contention that Matthew Maguire， later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson， N.J， proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. What is clear is that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic.

小猪豆豆觉得自己今天可奇怪了，一起床就开始猛打喷嚏，一天不知道打了多少喷嚏呢。
猪妈妈做好早餐，喊豆豆赶紧起床吃饭去上学。豆豆撒娇地说：“不嘛，不嘛，我要再睡会儿呢!”结果，不知为什么，他一直打喷嚏呢，那喷嚏简直就是惊天动地，唉，觉睡不成了，起床吧。咦，一起床，就不打喷嚏了。
吃完早饭，猪妈妈牵着小猪豆豆去上学。豆豆家到学校有条长长的石子小路呢，小路边上种着各种各样的花，真美!小猪豆豆不肯走了，她看见自己最爱的打碗碗花盛开着，淡粉红色，仿佛冲自己笑呢。豆豆凑上去，就想摘下一朵，可是手还没碰到打碗碗花呢，就又开始惊天动地地打起了喷嚏，那个喷嚏打得豆豆都抬不起头了。算了，就不摘花了吧，奇了怪了，不摘花了，喷嚏一下子也就好了。
来到学校，小猫咪咪冲过来，一下子撞在了小猪豆豆的身上。小猪倒没有什么，她个大啊，可是小猪咪咪一下子被撞到了一米以外，头上起了个大包，坐在那里哇啦哇啦哭起来。豆豆心想，真是活该，谁要你来撞我的。这样
想着，又惊天动地地打起了喷嚏，鼻涕眼泪哗啦啦。小猪豆豆边打喷嚏边想，算了，小猫咪咪也不是故意的，她那么小，撞着我当然疼了。这样一想啊，咦，不打喷嚏了。
小猪豆豆急忙跑过去扶起小猫咪咪，帮她揉揉脑袋，揉揉腿，然后两个小伙伴高高兴兴做游戏去了。
晚上，小猪豆豆躺在床上怎么也睡不着，一骨碌爬起来钻到妈妈的被窝：“妈妈，妈妈，今天晚上我不要一个人睡，我要跟你睡!妈妈，妈妈，你说我今天为什么老打喷嚏啊?”不等妈妈回答，喷嚏又惊天动地响了起来。

忽然有一天，一星期中的七个日子个个想停止工作，集到一起，开一个联欢会。不过每一个日子都是很忙的;一年到头，他们腾不出一点时间来。他们必须有一整天的闲空才成，而这只能每隔四年才碰到一次。这样的一天是放在二月里，为的是要使年月的计算不至于混乱起来①。
①二月每隔四年有一个闰日，使二月多出一天。
因此他们就决定在这个闰月里开他们的联欢会。二月也是一个狂欢节的月份，他将要依照自己的口味和个性，穿着狂欢节的衣服来参加。他们将要大吃大喝一番，发表些演说，同时相互以友爱的精神毫无顾虑地说些愉快和不愉快的话语。古代的战士们，在吃饭的时候，常常把啃光了的骨头彼此朝头上扔。不过一星期的这几个日子却只是痛快地开一通玩笑和说说风趣话——当然以合乎狂欢节日的天真玩笑的精神为原则。
