But before that Xiamu decides to try his best to give the name in the contracts to the bogies and let them get free. Thus, a loving, touching, scary story is opened up.
《夏目友人帐》主要讲述了男主人公夏目贵志拥有可以看到妖怪的特殊能力。因为父母双亡他的性格较为孤僻，并且由于他具有特殊的能力，他常辗转在于亲戚之间并被同龄人欺负。虽然他经历了许多不幸，但他依旧有好善良没有埋怨任何人。最终他被有好善良的藤原夫妇收养并进入高中。有一天，他被妖怪追赶躲进神社，不小心打破了一只强大妖怪斑的封印。并牵涉到了他祖母夏目玲子的'遗物—一本同妖怪签订的契约书。之后，这只强大的妖怪平时便变成猫的样子待在夏目身边保护他，但是他的条件是夏目死后要把这本契约书给它。但在此之前夏目决定尽其所能把契约书上的名字还给妖怪们让它们得到自由。由此，一个个温馨、感人、惊险的故事就此展开。

??不喜欢猫我不喜欢猫，总觉得“猫”这个字眼带着些柔媚与矫作，故我从来不养猫。
乡下奶奶家曾养过一只猫，那是爷爷在山上捡到的一只快要饿死的小猫崽儿，奶奶看着不忍心，便收留喂养，没几天，小猫便恢复了活力，一双眼有了光彩，而我仍是不喜欢猫的，尤其是，毫无野性的家猫。小猫渐渐长大，滚圆滚圆的，因为特别乖顺，所以也很讨喜，它喜欢趴在人膝间睡觉，懒懒地在太阳底下睡觉，已没有丝毫作为野猫的气性，我知道动物野外生存的法则：弱肉强食，优胜劣汰。而一旦被淘汰，付出的便是生命的代价。而它，本应是被淘汰者的一员，但它却存活下来，学会迎合人类。
之所以不喜欢猫，大概是看不惯它们的乖顺与媚态，它们用自己可爱的'姿态去迎合人类，以博好感。我觉得，作为宠物的，大抵都有些可怜。虽然我没有权利也没有必要发表对动物们的看法，但由此及彼，人亦是如此。每个人都有自己的伪装，每个人或多或少都有自己虚伪的一面，这点毋庸置疑。生而为人，便免不了阿谀奉承，生于尘世，便免不了做个俗人。但伪装总要有个限度，不然，连真实的自我都迷失了，即使过着纸醉金迷的生活，又有何乐趣可言？我不喜欢迎合，也不喜欢被迎合，每个人都有自己的生活方式与生活习惯，我们何必屈就自己去迎合别人的喜欢，又何必接受他人的假意迎合。逢场作戏，上下敷衍，也许在俗世生活便能如鱼得水，但却是失了本真与自我，活在别人的世界。失了个性的人亦如同那失了野性的猫，太过屈膝卑颜地活着，一生走尽，负的还是自己。我不喜欢猫，自然，我承认怀着些偏见；我不喜欢一些人，自然，我承认我不过也俗人一个，但毕竟入世生活，也就自己原谅自己了。
想李白一代诗酒谪仙，也曾迎合皇帝的乐趣，为皇家的绮靡欢乐作诗写文，但他内心又何尝不会痛苦？直到最后大呼“安能摧眉折腰事权贵，使我不得开心颜。”潇洒离去，做回自我时，才觉身心舒畅，逍遥自在。与其一味以迎合荣华富贵。不如坚持自我而清平自得。有人曾言：“功夫在书外，这学问那学问，敷衍人事才是一门真学问。”但我认为，敷衍不等同于处事，敷衍人事，屈迎他人，退而求其次，将就的是自己的人生。
那只小猫最后的结局是被一只山猫咬死，那一刻也有些忧伤。若它不溺于安乐的生活，还有属于野猫的利爪，也许结局会完全不一样，即使它再得人类喜爱，在生命的危急关头，人类终是顾不了它的性命存亡。生命不完全等同于生存，最大的痛苦莫过于总有人想要用种种理由消灭幸福所需要的参差多态。我们可以选择自己想要的生活，也可以决定自己以怎样的方式生活，既然如此，那何不撕下假意虚伪的面具，跳开左右逢源的大圈，为自己，个性张扬地活着。
