我们坐车来到宣纸文化园。远远地，我看到附近好几处山坡上铺着一大片米色的东西，像给山打了一块大补丁。我很奇怪，那是什么东西?是布吗?不像，那好像是一缕一缕的。是草吗?也不像草那样黄。那是什么呢?我的'心中浮起了一个大大的问号。
走进文化园，一位讲解员小姐笑容满面地走过来，领着我们一步步介绍。她先带我们来到几棵树前，讲道：“我们宣纸的制作原料不是竹子，也不是一般的树木，而是用我们宣城特有的青檀树皮，和本地沙田稻草按一定比例混合起来做成的。每隔三年，我们把青檀树的枝条砍下来，先用水煮，煮好后剥下树皮，铺在对面的山坡上，让它日晒夜露八到十个月，才把它们收回来。”我恍然大悟：哦，原来那“补丁”是青檀树皮啊!
下一步是挑选。这个工程非常浩大，完全靠人工将劣质的树皮和杂质挑出来。挑好后，将这些纤维用一个大木槌砸成一块块厚实的“毡子”。在下一道工序中，工人师傅用锋利的刀将“毡子”切成一小块一小块的料，再把它们放入一个特制的缸里，和着水用脚将它们踏成“泥”。这个缸从外面看不出啥稀奇，其实，它是一个圆底缸，只是缸底被埋在地下而已。然后将这些“泥”装进大布袋中洗一遍，就到了最神奇的一步。两位工人师傅将纸浆倒入一个装满水的大石槽中，用长竹竿搅合均匀，在木格子网上放一块竹帘，在水里左右一捞，揭下竹帘，嘿!就成了一张纸了!只不过这时的纸还不能碰，一碰就又变回了浆。这些纸被压出水分后，烘干，就成了一张宣纸了。
其实，这只是大概的工序，制作宣纸一共需要大大小小108道工序呢!可能正是因为宣纸制作工艺的复杂，一张正宗宣纸才会卖出40元的价钱吧!而且，它自始至终都没有添加任何化学物质，所以才能经受岁月的磨砺。
