5.12大地震，让四川许许多多的人都丧失了性命。但是，也有很多人，奇迹般的活了下来。这更使我们了解，学会生存的好处。
在这次地震中，一位正在教室中学习的小女孩被倒塌的教学楼压在了下面，身上伤痕累累。她用手把身边的碎石块搬开，腾出了一块很小的.空间。她继续搬着，但她的半条腿被压在一块很大的水泥板下，完全抽不出来。她毅然用一块尖锐的碎石，把那半条腿砍了下来。她拖着疲惫的身躯，和正在流血的半条腿，挖出了一条通向生命的通道。她以短痛换取了生命。就如一篇文章所说的：“在某个特定的时刻，你只有敢于舍弃，才有机会获得更长远的利益。”
在唐山大地震之前，有人发现他自制的地震检测仪响个不停，养在地下的兔子也跑了；公鸡不敢进窝，一直躲在高处，叫个不停；平时乖巧伶俐的小猫咪也整天垂头丧气，那人叫它，它也不理会。他觉得可能要发生地震了。但当他把他的猜测告诉院子里的人时，他们都不信，认为那人是杞人忧天。他只好自己做了一些准备与预防。唐山大地震中，他与家人，还有两个客人，都安全的躲过了这一劫。这也告诉我们，知道一些灾难前的现象也是不可少的。
